Can I connect iphone 4s to and ipod stereo dock

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I have a Sony Gigajuke with ipod dock, which works with my ipod nano 5th gen. Can I connect an iphone 4s to this dock (which seems to have the same connector), or will it cause software issues with either or both items? Will it break my phone?

Obviously the stereo was manufactured before the 4s came out, so it is not in the listed compatible devices, in fact, I don't think iphones were listed at all, just various ipods.

You might have to put it in air plane mode. You can't damage either item, why not try it and find out?

As far as I am concerned the iphone is just a glorified ipod, but don't like connecting things to items that don't say they are compatible.

It should be ok for charging and music playback then?
