Yes, Zone 3 can be fixed or variable line output, as far as I can see.

Hi, did you manage to connect to a separate stereo amp. If so can you let me know. I’m struggling to get the audio to output, so that I can run 2 additional fronts using a Hifi amp for better sound quality.

This won’t work, the zone 3 is to link another amp just to listen to a source connected to the Sony amp.

You need an amp with pre outs to be able to go do what it shows in the what hifi article
