Question about SKY HD.

I currently have a standard sky HD package with standard HD channels and one box.

I am thinking of buying a Sky HD box off ebay and putting it in another room in my house. What are my options for packages to make this work?

1. I dont tell sky and just get free HD channels and recording? I have read some people say you cant use the Sky+ without a viewing card.

2. I do tell sky, and subscribe to multi room. Does my existing £10 on HD then also apply to my box I bought from ebay? So basically for an extra £10 a month can I get Sky HD in two rooms (plus cost of HD box from ebay)?

Thanks

James.

No it doesn't, normal multiroom is £15/month, to get your "other room" HD, you'd have to pay another £10 on top of that, as I understand things.

I've been thinking about this myself but I just can't justify it.

Is it not £10 a month for HD as opposed to £15?

That would be £20 extra a month.

There's plenty of people who switch over to Sky Talk and can get deals on line rental, up to 12 months free. Might be worth chancing your arm and giving them a call. You could pay a litte more for the HD but save somewhere else.

Err, well, normally multi-room is £15/month by itself, HD is £10/month by itself, but both together, I don't know to be honest, I really haven't checked, which is a bit silly of me, however I think the OP wants to know what it'll cost for HD in BOTH rooms, I think it's another £10 for that (ie £10 per HD box plus whtever the multi-room charge is.

Youre right I was asking as part 2 how much for HD in both rooms with a box off ebay. Just looked at it on sky.com
Monthly Costs
Current Monthly Cost
30.00
Monthly TV Cost
20.00
Multiroom Subscription
9.75
HD Pack
9.75
HD Pack
10.00
Total Monthly Costs
49.50
You will receive 1 month's FREE HD Pack for each new Sky+HD box you buy online
One-Off Costs
Sky+HD box
199.00
Standard Set Up
30.00
Total One-off Costs
229.00

So basically its saying an extra £10 for the multiroom and an extra £10 for the second HD subscription. What a rip off. Plus if I was to buy a box from eBay its approx £80. If I bought one from Sky its £199 plus setup. Setup! I thought I was already setup considering I am already a Sky customer...

My other question was whether I could use the box as Sky + with free HD channels if I upgraded to multiroom without the extra HD payment. Anyone?

You can access BBC HD,ITV HD(with new EPG) Channel 4HD and Luxe HD without an HD sub.

Getting Sky to either supply an HD box and viewing card, or just a viewing card(if you go the ebay route for the STB) if you're not going to take out an HD sub on the multiroom box can be bit of an uphill battle though.

It can be done, but when you stray from anything that isn't a "standard package" getting a CS agent to understand what you want can be troublesome!!!

Thanks Dave. And that means I can use Sky+ too?

What happens if I just have the box? Would it work at all without a viewing card in it?
