i have a sony 360 and the picture quality is better than the ps3 (original 60gb model now with 500gb hdd)

i have had:-

sony s350 panasonic bd35 and the 360 is better than both of those and the sony 760 is supposed to beat all 3 of them

and all of those was better than the ps3. i have over 300 blu ray films and and extensivly compared them.

some films that have had a sloppy conversion no you can not tell the difference.

you do need a screen of 40 inch to see the difference as 32 inch does not cut.

my brother also has a £3000 pioneer plasma ( hes loaded) and im not convinced that plasma is better than lcd as the picture looks more grainy has has more light reflection at certain angles.

its the same story as the xbox360 plus hd dvd versus a dedicated hd dvd player and i always found that the toshiba ep35 was miles better than the add on but some people could not see it

I had a similar question, and my additional thought was, wouldn't we, say in 2-3 yeas time (or even less) be replacing dedicated players with new ones, with the advent of 3d blu-ray? I understood that the PS3 could be upgraded in that regard through firmware. Or am I making an elephant out of a mouse...?

Every year they get replaced blu ray players with new ones,

I personally don't think 3D will make much difference.

The PS3 I understand can be updated to be 3D.

Yes you are making an elephant.

Going from a PS3 80gig (not the slim) to the Sony 760 and the 5000ES I can tell you their is a difference in the picture and sound.

I guess if you are expecting it to be like the jump from CRT TV to Plasma/LCD it isn't going to be that big. I was originally looking for a better picture and sound from my PS3. So with Clare and others advice I picked up both in my home and ran 3 cables, side by side by side.

The picture difference going to the 760 is better than the Ps3 and the sound is better also. Then I went to the 5000ES their I could barely see a difference with the 760 and 5000es.It was their but not enough for me to justify the price difference. But the sound quality from this unit was a bigger wider sound and deeper tighter bass. DVD also are better and don't have that motion/pixelation i would see on the PS3. I would also note I didn't notice the pixilation on DVD's with the 760 either.

my opinion is to get one and try it out on your TV I think you will prefer it, Then you have to ask if the price is worth the upgrade.

for me it was. PS I kept the 5000ES and Love it.

i wonder why people are not so sure about the gains from an upgrade from a ps3 as a lot to do with that blu-ray as cought up with or past the spec of what most peoples tv's can do so the gains don't seem so great. because with dvd tv's were way more capable than dvd spec so how good the dvd player was regarding upscaling could make a massive differance on the picture. so when your tv is 1920p or something a blu-ray player will have it's work cut out more so the good & bad will be shown up more. i may be wrong the the other half tells me i normally am when i start to think.

I think the PS3 is an excellent blu-ray player, so far i have resisted the urge to buy a dedicated player. I agree with Claire, the main difference i have noticed between my PS3 and my mates 760 is in some panning shots. The 760 is much smoother. Just compare the IMAX scene at beginning of Dark Knight when its panning in towards the skyscraper buildings ... its a bit juddery on PS3 .... smooth as a baby's bum on 760 :)

Panning shots is also where I usually notice a difference between players. Ex the Sony 360 has more stuttering pans then the Samsung BDP-1500. Pictures look better on the 360 though.

I'm glad to hear the 760 pans so smoothly.

Having borrowed a 760 off a mate as I was thinking of upgrading my Sony 350 BD, being honest I noticed no difference in the picture quality between a 760 and my 60GB PS3, the difference I noticed from the PS3 was in the sound which was better on the 760.

I did however notice a difference in picture and sound compared to my BD350 which were both better on the 760.

The set I have is a Sony 40" 1080P.
