Best upscaling dvd recorder for TV signal?

As much as I'd like to I can't afford Sky HD (with the premium channels) so it looks like I might just hook my standard def Sky box to an upscaling DVD recorder and output the pic via hdmi. My dad has a Pioneer DVD-560HX which does a stunning job of upscaling a sdtv signal to 1080p but its a very pricey player (nearly €400 here in Ireland). I have a Sony RDR-HXD870 but it is leagues below the Pioneer. Is there anything you fellers could recommend?
