I made the change to Blu ray a number of years ago and have built up a fairly extensive library including replacing a number of favourite DVDs (no doubt like a lot of consumers) During this period my DVD collection has been largely ignored. Untill recently, when i upgraded my player to the Denon transport. Its upscaling capabilities are outstanding - to the point where my DVD collection has been given a new lease of life. For a lot of people making the change who have large DVD collections, this would/should be an important point to consider when choosing a blu ray player. Anyone got any other player recomendations particularily with newer models?

Also, i have been amazed by the number of people (non AV fans) who are unaware that blu ray players actually play DVDs as well!

I've owned the Denon, and recently the newer pioneers, panasonic and sony players (the only one player I haven't seen is the Oppo 93) and IMO none of them compare to the upscaling of 2500, it's a great machine.

Hi,

I only have a few blu rays, and I recently bought the panasonic bdt210, due to my previous dvd surround system giving up the ghost and the ps3 not being very good soundwise, and its upscaling is excellent. The WHF review said that it was good, which is not exactly enough praise to make you want to rush out and buy it, so I got it from amazon, so that if it was pants, I could send it back without any hassle. Luckily I didn't have to. Highly recommended.

It's a done deal, I'm collecting my 751BD tomorrow, so I'm not get any regrets picture-wise for both Blu-ray/DVD? Unfortunately won't be playing anything right now, waiting for my 685 speakers to return with new tweeters intact (my nieces' fingers' mods didn't quite do anything for the sound you see).

BDP's playing DVD's is fine but i find when watching DVD's now it's the sound i notice more than the picture.

I got a graphic example of this with Thor watched it the other week (US import) and wasn't that impresed couldn't put my finger on it. Wasn't till i was checking some scenes out i realised watched the DVD/ digital copy disc. Thor's hammer on the DVD sounded like a little whimpy whoosing sound and on the Blu ray it's sounded more like a helicopter blade !! that's when the penny dropped what i'd done.
