Interested to know what's the best cdplayer out there ? For around £2000-£3000

something with a good power supply a really good onboard dac if that's possible have read some have 2 onboard dac's inside and it would have to be well constructed too and have XLR inputs

And sound amazing

I'd go with a Pathos Digit or an Ex-dem Electro EMC-1 Mk111
the pathos digit is that valves CD player ? And I take it it should not be an issue running one on a abrahamsen amp . I know about the electro CD player I thought someone on here had one for sale

Yes, it has Valves: http://www.audiooasis.co.uk/en/prodinfo.php?productid=PAT-CD-Digit

If it was my money, I'd go with Electro's suggestion above...truly wonderful player.

It is being sold by Audio Destination in Devon.

It is the dealer I bought my preamp and monoblocks from.

The best parts of it is the wonderful and almost indestructible CD pro 2 transport and the superb class A discrete analogue output stage.

Give Mike and Caroline a call and you might be able to do negotiate a nice deal.
thanks for the info will it sound the same as the abrahamsen 1up CD player do you know or is the electro CD player in a different class to the abrahamsen player and do you know how good the onboard dac is on the electro ? As my abrahamsen 1up has gone wrong and taken ages for a new mechanism to come from abrahamsen but even if I do get it fixed I am not sure if I want to use it as I have found out by using my old marantz 8005 cdplayer with the arcam irdac its openned the sound up in the treble more detail and very open on the top end on my speakers like I never heard it before which is puzzling to be honest as the on board dac on the marantz is meant to be better then the arcam irdac . But what I am after is really a one box solution that gives me the same results

The EMC1UP is the best Cd player I have ever heard .

I have had mine for more that 13 years now and I have played many thousands of Cd's on it and it is still the best Cd payer I have ever heard and it has never missed a beat ( touch wood *smile* ).

The current model is the one I listed above.

If interested, take Electro's advice and ring the dealer that he suggested and they should be able to tell you what you need to know.

Not the EMC 1, it was the budget player which I think is similar to yours, it was Plastic Penguin.

Yip. PC-1 is the entry-level model.

If I was looking for a CDP around the OP's budget Roksan Caspian, Naim CDXS...

Personally wouldn't touch another Electrocompaniet with a bargepole. They are IMHO overhyped and over priced.

well not had much luck with the abrahamsen 1up cdplayer I did see the rosksan caspian in action when I had a demo at richer sounds on the Cambridge flagship pre /power amp but it did not sound anything special but maybe it was just on the wrong equipment to sound good the Naim is meant to be the entry level CD player and mark on he said about going for one but my thinking is some of the Naim stuff is overhyped too at seriously high money

To be fair I did tell you before you bought the PC1 that it was good but nothing special . *unknw*

Sabbath,

in the last week you've posted about a new amp, then a DAC, then on the upgrade thread you implied you were content with what you had and now you're after a new CD player. Of course it's your money to spend as you wish but your strategy seems a little sporadic.

IIRC were given many recommendations for the Chord DACs - did you ever audition one? The reason I ask is that once you find a DAC you truly like, any transport will do to supply it with binary. You could buy a cheap transport or use the digi out on your Marantz. This way you could spend your money on something like a Hugo TT and both your CDs and your ripped files would sound equally good.

That is why I suggest you contact Audio Destination, I am sure they will cut you a good deal, they did for me, they might if you ask let you have it sale or return subject to the usual conditions so that you can try before you buy .

Make sure you ask them how old the EMC1 UP is, they can tell from the serial number.

The newer EMC1 mk3 is a completely different machine internally, it is in fact an SACD player that can also play Cd's.

It is also a limited edition machine, only 400 have been made.

The EMC UP mk2 was in production from 2001 up to 2014 / 15 .

You did indeed sir. But it's the old adage: First impressions...

Unfortunately it has tarred my whole view of Electrocompaniet. Rightly or wrongly I couldn't recommend a product I don't have a musical affinity with.

i think this is coming down to lessons that I have learned about my setup I thought at first I could improve by buying a pre amp / power amp but I was wrong I was listening to some of the comments a specially from mark as he thought it was a source problem he was right my amp is not the issue here so I started looking at dac's to see if this would sort the problem out that I have and still use the marantz as transport so I got the M-Dac plus on demo but still I was not getting a better sound stage on the top end as it lacks openness so the M-Dac went back . Then I remembered that I had the arcam ir dac so hooked that up this then give me the sound I was after so yes your right I am content to a degree . No I have not tried the hugo TT because what I really want is a one box job that does it all as I do not do streaming or anything like that all I want is a cdplayer that has a top dac inside already as that's all I do play CDs so it's been a case of finding out were in my setup it was lacking and it lacks on the CD player so this is way I am asking what's the best CD player it's not easy finding out were in your setup were the weak link is but now know I could just carry on using the arcam ir dac and using the marantz as transport but I just want to simplify things by buying a decent CD player

So what weakness in the sound of the Abrahamsen are you trying to address?

I can't add a lot more than Electro already has about the EMC1UP, other than when I was looking for a new player I demoed the likes of Wadia, Audio Research and Krell, none of which came close to the beautiful and organic sq of the Electrocompaniet.

Mike and Caroline are really nice people, they let me try before I bought my unit, give them a bell.

I have no weakness in the abrahamsen sound I did think at first it had a weakness

But what puzzled me was by adding the arcam ir dac I was getting a lot more high frequencies coming out of my speakers that I was not getting with the marantz on it own or with the abrahamsen CD player what I am getting is more information coming out of the speakers more detail that was not there beforehand drum cymbals are clear to hear now they were not before so this is a dac problem not amp like I thought it was at the beginning its seem to me that of the shelf cd players use cheap onboard dac's i might be wrong but that's is what i think
