Hi All,

I have brought my Dad his 1st blu-ray player for xmas and want to show him what he has been missing !!

Could anyone give me a top 5 list of the most impressive blu-ray experiences E.g Dark Knight

Thanks

This may heavily depend on the individual's favourite films.

For me, this year, my favourites have been Dark Knight, I Am Legend, Zodiac, The Descent, and The Thing.

I would add Star Trek 2009, Terminater Salvation, Knowing and if he is bond fan Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace

The Dark Knight

Knowing

Planet Earth Box set

Band of Bothers Box Set

Casino Royale

If you want to be totally blown away by picture quality get a film called "Baraka ". No plot, story or dialogue of any kind. just mind blowing picture quality

In addition

Quantum of Solace & Hell Boy 2 are good but as said earlier it depends what he's into. For example a friend of a friend detests any James Bond films

Thanks all,

He is a typical bloke.. Anything Sci-fi / Action ect.. More BANGS the better =)

I would say

NORTH BY NORTHWEST (and THE SEARCHERS to make the VistaVision double)

THE DARK KNIGHT (warn him about the ratio changes)

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY

CASINO ROYALE

BAND OF BROTHERS (6 BD Box set available online for £17.99!)

Enjoy

Star Trek definitely needs to be in there, Watchmen if he likes it (I thought it was excellent, but some don't).

Ones which haven't been mentioned are Blade Runner, Close Encounters, Iron Man, The Matrix and Transformers.

Does he have an HD audio capable sound system? If not, maybe look specifically for ones with a great picture.

I know it's not the best film ever made but I was really impressed with Transformers 2 - Imax edition. The audio and video are both reference quality and the Imax scenes are astounding. I got it from abroad for £21 delivered with no import tax so only a few quid more than normal version.

Some great deals to be had: eg Amazon
ir

has Band of Brothers for £17.98!

andyb190:Bladerunner was my first and best BD buy. Your dad will love it.Much as I hate to disagree with a fellow Blackadder fan, if his dad is like my dad or indeed me, he will hate it.

But then if he's like me or my Dad, he'll love it.

(this could go on for a while...

But he likes Sci-Fi so as the best film of it's genre he must like it. Any true fan of BA knows and loves this film.

I'm a massive black adder fan (especially the fourth series) and a huge sci-fi fan. And I just don't like Bladerunner. Wouldn't go as far as to say I hate it, but it does nothing for me. Same as Blakes 7.

Nooooo ! Blakes was the mutts when I was a kid. 'Standard by 12' at least !

Ditto. I read the book (Do androids dream of electric sheep") berfore the film was even thought of and am a fan of Mr *'s work. The film seem to bear no relation to the book (I know that doesn't make it bad per se) and I hated the way it was filmed. I even went to the cinema to see it (for me that is very unusual) so I gave it every chance. That it is regarded as a classic really surprises me.

Thanks for the replies all !

He doesnt have HD sound which is a shame (Mum wont let him she hates "Boom Boom Boom"... Aka Subwoofers! Hehe)

I think he's going to HAVE to have Dark knight (as thats one of my faves) and for sure Star Trek (he is a fan of that) I saw it the other day I was quite impressed not being a trek fan still very enjoyed !

Try "The Fall"

Probably the best picture you will see. Unusually beautiful movie with some of the most awesome cinematography you will see. And the film aint half bad either!
