Exactly, the best balance between fidelity and power and punch. There are several models that will do a pretty good job from the Studiospares/Seiwin 5a and 6a £120-140 to the more expensive branded product from the likes of Mackie and Yamaha.

The Behringer speakers mentioned above give an awful lot for the money too, though they are not the most refined, particularly the more powerful versions. Still, miles better than any PA setup.

The fly in the ointment appears to be the OPs obsession with bass and subwoofers, this will only spread the money too thin, the Fame combo I mentioned above being the cheapest solution I can think of.

Cerwin Vega! did home audio speakers for a while too, those are the ones I was referring to. Seeing as they apparently tested them using Iron Maiden and the like, I'd suggest they'd be on the money for what the OP seems to be after!

OP ..... choose an option here.... do you want to blow the walls off? do you want to listen to music with high but not crazy bass levels?

if it's the first then get the active pa speakers above.

If you want something more homely let us know, best option in my book in this case is an active 8 inch monitor or cheap floorstanders, again depending on output required and genres of music.

For £100 ish get valdus 500's and a cheap amp (eg tangent amp 50 used to be £50 new), it won't get the most out of them but ill go pretty loud (monitors at this price will not do much bass) . For £100-200 I'd say 8 inch active monitors, they won't go as loud as the valdus 500's but will sound better within their limits. Above £250 I'd start looking for better floorstanders and a cheap nad amp.

whatever you do don't buy passive pro audio speakers at your budget.

Actually like most high efficiency louspeakers the Vega's were largely lacking in really deep bass, made up for it in having massive mid bass punch, ideal for 70s or 80s heavy rock.

The obsession with really deep bass is a more modern thing.

The better ones sound good but are rather expensive eg google this, they will probably go for more ....... Speakers Cerwin Vega VE-15 (2x)

The cheaper ones are not that different from normal speakers and not as good wharfedale's equivalents (at that price) (for OP's purpose) the xarus 5000's and valdus 500's, becauses they don't have the same "party" heritage.

If you get a pair of xls215's for example they are awesome but again they are going to be far far out of the budget.

Maybe there's some other similar products to cerwin vega/wharfedales xarus lines I'm not aware of that would be suitable??

I want something That can control itself When playing rock/metal screamo But when playing Rap and bass stuff i.e dubstep Shows how good the bass is .. Its not really Ideal considering most speakers do different things like bass heavy or crazy clearness so yeah

I saw some nice speakers in CEX today they play there music on and it was packing a punch they looked like bookshelfs I couldnt get the make or model so I dont know

Id say on what ive said whats the best idea for me?

Ps I saw a Jbl scs 175 sub for £50 pound is it worth it

If you have the cash and want HUGE bass, buy some PMC IB1's or even larger PMC's and drive them with a Krell FPB power amp. This is real night club physical bass performance.

If you want stunning speed and bass resolution and dynamic ability, buy some BIG active ATC's.

Forget about the sub for a minute.

First give us a budget, then say if you have any size requirements. there are too many variables here to give an accurate answer

The Behringer B1031a is available just under the £250 mark and is a perfectly good call. As are all the other recommendations I made earlier.

Behringer B1031A I've looked into most comments and peoples reviews say that they are clear rather then bassy, Im looking into other speakers I've come across the thx Logitech speakers if they are any good ?
