These are cheap powered speakers, just 10 watts/channel through passive crossovers, basically carp.

These are fully active speakers with 60 watts for the bass and 30 watts for the tweeter, vastly superior and less than £120.

Add a sub to these and you might actually get somewhere, but given your budget that might half to come later.

But anyway, I am just repeating myself now, the package mentioned in my earlier post is astonishing value, hugely capable in terms of power and punch if a little lacking in refinement. If what you are asking for, is actually what you want, this is way better than anything for comparable money.

If you are in Europe you can get this delivered for free, right on the edge of your budget at €349.

Sorry, can't find a decent pic to link to, try the link.

That's an awful lot of equipment for the money!

Realistically it is a bit of 'a mugs eyeful', by decent hi-fi standards it is unrefined and frankly, a bit crude, but given the requirements of the OP by far the best 'bang for the buck' that I know of.

Driven directly off a computer or via a cheap dac preamp there is loads of fun to be had from this system (I have heard the speakers a number of times) or better still the same package with the bigger 5060 main speakers for €400. Just leave most of your hi-fi preferences at the door.

but 349 is quite pricey for that anything cheaper? :/

If you want a semi serious 2.1 system that really does what you want, it is dirt cheap for the performance you get.

You have 3 options. In my order of preference......

Pay the money and buy the system.

Buy the active speakers only, Studiospares/Seiwin 6a will have enough bass for the time being, buy the sub later.

Buy a cheaper 2.1 system, something like like the Corsair 2500 and live with the limitations.

Your money, your choice.

Edited to add that the company is a huge German pro-audio dealer and totally reliable. The same system is available in England but will cost more £400 against €349 euros.

You would have to see what is on offer, nothing really comes close a 'regular' prices.

Browse Music Store and Thomann in Germany and Studiospares and DV247 in the uk.

The €349 package really is as cheap as it gets. How are you going to dribe them?

Behringer Truth 2030A or the larger 2031A.

Decent enough call for the money but the OP seems determined to have a sub too, that makes them too expensive.

They are speakers as used at gigs in pubs, that sort of thing. Industrial, large and loud.

Just type in PA speakers into an ebay search or Google it.

You could try Monkey Banana Turbo. They do several different sizes and a sub. New to the UK but I heard them at BPM a few weeks ago and liked them so much I listed them.

Hey mate, give these a try:

http://www.andertons.co.uk/active-monitors/pid19948/cid738/mackie-mr5-mk2-active-studio-monitor.asp

£140 each, with fantastic bass response. My friend uses these. He listens to bass-heavy music, and they hold up extremely well.

They are active, so you won't need a separate amplifier to power them.

I have the Mackie's in the previous post and very pleased I am, but if you can scrape the extra cash together (and ultimately want more bass), I'd go for the MR8's, you might not need the sub that way.

Been in your position, grown through it.

Only expensive monitors will cut it, £100-300 will not get what you want for bass.

I'd recommend these (they come on and off all the time) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pair-Xarus-Floor-Standing-Speakers/dp/B00391GQ00

Alternatives are the older valdus 500's from ebay, not too expensive, probably £50, but you have to collect them. You will struggle to find hifi speakers that will provide more midbass at any price. (They do exist but are rare).

Better (but more difficult/rarer to actually get) alternatives are larger second hand missions/mordant short or something similar with multiple 8 inch woofers.

Another thing is the type of music you listen to, if it's dance or rock with hard bass then those will be fine. If it's rap or dubstep etc then you would probably be better with bookshelves and an ebay sub.

To members of this forum...I know these speakers are not great quality but they are not really that bad, and are a world away from any 2.1 setup. They sound FAR better than CHEAP pa speakers...

...or get some secondhand Cerwin Vega! speakers. They'll blow a hole in your wall, but not sure what they go for used.

Beat me to it.

If I were you I would scour ebay for Cerwin Vegas. Anything with 8" or bigger drivers.

Then also scour ebay for a used AV receiver to drive them.

I am guessing you could pick up a really bass-thumping system for £300.

Yep.

Look for this on Ebay... £200 buy it now. Then add a £100 receiver... Jobs a good un.
