I am looking for a state of the art set 50+ inches.
I have to say it seems to me that older models are in fact better than any newer models, no TV manufacturer, are investing like they use to in making state of the art sets i.e RGB backlight systems,in the market place.
I am after a comparison with three models in-particular, all different sizes the quality of set being the premise for me.
Sony KDL55X4500Pioneer PDP-LX6090 Sharp LC52XS1E
I want to define what is the best TV for me to purchase 50Inches +. Subsequently if I have missed out a better newer model i.e Samsung LED etc please please let me know.
(not that keen on 1st version 3D TVS)
Thanks

Pioneer does not make plasmas anymore and so besides the fact that you could only by a second hand one I wouldnt call it state of the art.

Not sure where you are doing your research to come up with that selection but I suspect you need to update your source.

Stormpilot,

Suppliers still hold stock if you look hard enough......

How have you managed to answer my question, without actually giving me any help on finding a TV set?

The premise is that there has not been a better TV made than the Pioneer, and if there has and you know of one then please specify the set.

Many thanks.

I have the same query, and I guess I was worried that you were using some out of date source of information. I wouldnt buy the Pioneer 6090 in the middle of 2010...the warranty would be useless and the set would be expensive.

So what is the best +50 sets....I dont know

chelsea2010:

Panasonic v20 plasma tv best tv on market now

please can you supply the full manufacturer part number?

Chelsea2010, there is a bit of a Panansonic fan club here at times. I wouldn't just take anyones word that that V20 is the 'best TV on the market' I'm doubting the guy making that claim has seen the rest of the TVs on the market to back that up. Before you dive in and get that V20 I would google the following: 'fading blacks panasonic V20'

first two pages of that google search dont seem to pull up that much in terms of complaints.

Fading blacks Sony comes up with just as much so not sure what to make of this.

Is there a particular Panasonic problem?

As this screen has just been released in the UK nobody would have owned one for long enough to give a verdict on how badly (if at all) blacks fade after time, that is probably why there isn't much about it on the net yet. However, I did read that the equivalent US model had shown black levels fade after time. Is it true? absolutely no idea whatsoever. if I was about to part with my cash to buy one of these screens I'd definitely want to find out though. With regard to the Sony screens I'd be more concerned what sort of backlight it had than fading blacks, especially if I was forking out for the 55 inch model the OP mentioned!

Yes floating blacks and the black levels rise.

You have to search forum and google , what we know now is that 2009 sets are afected and there is no information about this 2010 sets, it looks that v20 and vt20 are very good sets but i would be carefull , 2 steps behind at least untill there is certain that this are problems of the past and you can applie the extra money for extra picture quality that does not fade over few time !

Panasonic - should take care of your costumers properly and change their atitude !

Panasonic V20 & VT20 sets are only 50 inches maximum currently. Apparently, there are plans for larger screen sizes later this year

If you can get hold of a Pioneer LX6090 or KRP 600A, they're the best TVs. I don't know where you can find one though. Search around. You may be lucky.

Have you considered a projector?

Pioneer TVs are still the best around.

If you can get hold of a 60 inch Kuro I would definately go for it.

If you cannot I would go for either Panasonic V20 / VT20 or a Samsung PS63C7705.

dominos:TRY A REVIEWS ON OTHER SIDES

I wouldn't try that - plasmas don't take too well to being placed on their sides...

dominos:SOORY BUT THAT HAPPEND TO THE 2009 RANGE OF PANA PLASMAS

so... that means there is no doubt about it will not happen to 2010 sets ?

are you 100 % sure about that ?

Let me remind you that in 2009 one of the best Tv's was in fact Panasonic , and consumers paid a premium price for the extra quality picture , the same extra quality picture that fade way with only 1000 hours (not every qualities fade tough - refering to blacks )

maxflinn:

can someone define "floating blacks" ?

sounds interesting ...

welcome back max ..

"Floating blacks is when the black level of the display shifts depending on what else is displayed on the screen."

this is probably not the best defenition for floating black issue but you can google it , there are youtube videos of it and panasonic owners reporting, asking advice and returning sets .. this floating blacks issue is also refered to at least 2010 G series line up..

didnt read / know if it afects the V20 and VT20 ..

sorry to disagree with you about this issue Max but with the faded blacks, with the reported black level rise from the studies to average 1000 hours display showed the black levels increse , triple .. that value is equal to commun lcds blacks ...

Studies and reports showed initial black levels value - that was very good indeed , but the same reports showed after 1000 hours the same black levels have triple .. this lost is a fact and is well reported in diverse and well knowned and reputed reviewers and calibrators .. consumers start buzzing panasonic with this problem .. that panasonic called a design problem and agging ..

even when black levels triples you still have a very good PQ but not the deepest blacks , not the almoust kuro blacks that all of consumers paid for ... thats why so many hungry with pana atitude ..

Im talking about the 2009 sets , cause there is not any information about black levels rise in 2010 sets , to early , but is said to be soon cause lots of people are worried about it and lots of eyes aimming to panasonic to confirm if this (black levels rise) is corrected and is not an issue in 2010 sets.

hmm , im not so sure about that cm7 , seenett measured the blacks on last years g10,v10 after the rise , and they were still blacker than any other tv from last year bar the kuro , according to them ...

my own g10 still has very good blacks , better than a friends sony 40w5500 , and ive put up far more than a thousand hours on it ..

im not sure , but i think my tv did have slightly better blacks when new , but i cant be sure , if it had lcd like blacks , i would notice ..

i ll try to get the real numbers and sources from where i gather that info and get back to you..

i have no doubt you still have good blacks cause initial you had extraordinary values , so even if they triple you still have very good balck levels...

so.. if comparing to last year sets , even with the raise you could still have the best black levels , but im going to get the values to be sure .. brb
