Backlight Bleed???

Panasonic TX-32LMD70:

Dark bits in all four corners. Very noticeable when the BBC London logo is shown with full red screen and just the BBC logo in the middle.

Same happens with a vey white screen.

Is this backlight bleed and should it be all four corners or have I got a problem?

It could be that the panel is a bit uneven, usually with backlight bleed, the corners and edges are a little brighter (the backlight bleeding through). It could also be a viewing angle problem, how close are you sitting to the screen, and what height is the screen at relative to your eyes when you are in the position that you have noticed the problem from?

I'm about 3 metres away and its at eye level. Its obvious that it is dark in all four corners when looking striaght at the screen.

I have seen the same BBC screen on a friends Bravia and it is fine, no dark corners. The set hums a bit too.

Sounds like I should exchange it?

It should be fine at that viewing distance, so try and get it replaced while it is still quite new. Who did you buy it from?. Is it dark on all programs, or just the bbc logo?

I have only noticed it on an all white or all red screen thus far (not had it long). My friends Sony is fine with the BBC logo, all four corner remain red and thats an older Bravia set.

Bought from John Lewis. Already called them and they have said they will exchange, refund or I can choose another set. What lovely people! Pleased I bought from them now, Richer Sounds said before I nearly bought from them 'We dont really do exchanges'.

Spoke to Panasonic too, they said the hum is not normal but would need to see the set regarding the black corners. I will excgange it anyway and see what the next one is like.

JL are usually very good about customer service, so it is good to know they are treating you well, its one of the massive advantages over buying off the net a bit cheaper.
