JohnNewman:What ever happened to the B&W 700 series. They used to be good in the past, but they seem to have fallen off the map.

They are being discontinued. I emailed B&W a couple of weeks ago with an enquiry and i got mail back stating that the cm series was being expanded and the 700s discontinued. And lo and behold they chuck out a press release, but as far as im aware there was no mention of the demise of the 7s.

Hmmmm... just checking: did they say that the expanded CM series is supposed to replace the 700 Series or just that the 700 is being discontinued? I always assumed that they planned to bring out the 780 Series or some upgrade like that eventually... But to be honest, I never saw the reason to have both the CM and 700 Series available (considering how close they are in price)...

Basicaly yes. Their product support guy said thus........The CM9 will be the top of the CM range and the 700 series is comeing to an end and will NOT be replaced. So i read this as..... CMs then jump up to 800s.

Cool... makes sense... (only thing is that next round they should rename the CM series to 700, just to make the progression more obvious 6 then 7 then 8)....

Hi all

Shaun from B&W here.

Just to clear up any confusion, the B&W 700 Series as we know it has now been discontinued. We feel the launch of the new CM Series very much fills the space in the market that the 700 Series inhabited, especially with the CM9.

That's not to say that we'll never make another 700 Series, but it's not in the pipeline as it stands at the moment.

I hope that helps.

Shaun

...but the 700's were so funky looking :O(
Although the CM's do look nice in the piano black.

I just started looking around to replace my 15 year old B&W P6
speakers (predecessors from CDM / 700 / CM series). I hoped to replace them with the
703 but found out that they are no longer available. I'm not satisfied
with the CM series nor with the 804S. For me it was or the 703 or the
803S but my budget (wife ;-) does not allow this.

Why not build a series with a simple
design with matrix cabinet and a free aluminium Nautilus tweeter? This
could be a series based on the matrix 800 series. My father has bought
the 803 series 2 in 1995 for a listed price of 2.300 euro and got 10%
reduction. For a comparable speaker at B&W you are looking at the
current 803S listed at 5.500 euro (x2 in 10 years time). I also heard
from a dealer that the price difference is mainly because of the
design. This should also be the reason that B&W has dropped the 700
series (expensive design).

I hope the near future will bring something or I will be forced to look for an alternative.

For me an updated matrix 803 series 2 would be fine... (call it the 703 series 2 ;-))

B&W is working on a new 700 series to fill the gap between the new nautilus and the c series

release date unknown but probably by november.

That would make sense considering the massive price difference between the CM Series and the New 800 Series... However I would love to know 2 things:

1) Who are you? (Since this is your 1st post on the forums)

2) Where did you get this info from?
