Just purchased some audioquest red river XLR cables to connect up a Cambridge 851C/E/W system. I've noticed that the XLR connectors are non-standard; rather than having the clip on the side, they simply have a small round protrusion that lines up with the slot in the socket to insure they're oriented correctly.
The problem I have is that these are incredibly tight to insert and remove... like, they don't snap in like XLR's usually do. I've also noticed the small release buttons on the back of my preamp don't pop out when the cables are inserted, suggesting that these cables don't use the standard latching mechanism.
Does Anyone own these and can confirm whether this is by design, due to the non-standard plugs, the connectors on my ca gear, or just generally rubbish cables? They don't sound bad at all... it's just the possible damage caused by the tight connections worries me.
