Audio Note DAC1 ?????

Hi All,

Does anyone know much about these dacs?. I have come across one at £200 s/h. I know nothing at all about them ie: price, performance etc.

I do believe it has valves fitted, are these beneficial?

After doing a lot of searching I believe these are purchased as kits to build yourself (or prebuilt) but can't find any prices?

How do they compare to a Dacmagic etc?

Any info very much appreciated.

It was reviewed by What Hi-Fi in Sept 2000 where it got 5 stars and as part of an all Audionote system in January 2002 in a systems test, cost £749 back then, the system as a whole got 4 stars, and yes I believe that they do have valves.

I know I'm sad that I know all this, been looking for speaker ideas for my Sugdens (also in the system test).

i have the MF V8 Dac which has both a solid state and tube/valve state output - i tend to use the solid for rock/dance etc and the tube state for acoustic/vocals etc

i like the tube state adds a little warmth and fuller soundstage to recordings - would def recommend valve dacs i'd go listen to it if you can

Thanks for that, a home demo is not possible. Any dac I get will be for my new Sonos system, do you know how it would compare to my CD192.
