Arm question - probably stupid

Hi all. Just wondering how stupid an idea it would be to swap a project debut iii arm for a better one off a now defunct turntable, despite the fact that the length is different. I'm sure the answer is really obvious, but I haven't a clue!

Thanks for the help...

So long as the arm mount and effective length etc conform exactly to the existing arm. (Project Debut pivot to spindle length is 200mm and effective length is 218.5mm with overhang of 18.5mm)

If I were you i'd sell the Project (intact) on ebay and put the money towards a suitable turntable with the correct arm mount and geometry.

What is the 'better' arm?

Thanks for the reply. Not entirely sure - was asking on behalf of someone I know who doesn't go in for forums. Think it might be some kind of Jelco, in which case almost certainly overkill anyway!

Jelco arms - depending on the model - are most likely to require a 210mm or 214mm or 222mm pivot to spindle distance, and (in the correct mount) have effective lengths of either 229m or 228mm or 237mm respectively.

Don't do it. (a) The geometry is all wrong (b) Yes, Jelco arms deserve much better turntables as suitable platforms.

Obviously there would be other considerations like whether that particular Jelco arm has a suitable range of arm-height adjustment to provide correct VTA on the Project, and if the thing will actually fit under the Project's lid, and if the counterweight (or it's stub) will foul against the lid through it's arc.

Anyway that's all moot.
