Are all CD players really equal?

👍I get your point, although on the contrary the CD 60 infact nestles in-between the CD 52 MK2 being the lowest at a standardised 2 V-rms and the CD 6007 having the highest output voltage 2.4 all within 0.2v of each other in a kinda tasty Marantz sandwich with the two budget players both new and old being the tiger bread at either end of a personal favourite mid-range filling of CD 60 😬

The subtle differences heard only between the CD 60 up against the other two, in which I didn't hear any precivable difference between the CD 52 MK2 and 6007 despite (maybe to some) a shocking 33yrs age difference IMO is predominantly because of the small differences "quality" DAC's make (and the already aforementioned opinions on my prior posts).

Owning these CD players further removes any other personal bias towards preferring either one when making comparisons.

I always keep to the same precieveable volume irrespective of the output voltage of any given ancilieries when swapping from
A-to-B in the interest of fairness, after all it would only be my time wasted by the same unconscious volume biasing that started "The volume wars" although worth noting that the volume needed no adjustment using the same CD.
You can still imagine differences purely through expecting there to be differences. You tend to focus on the music slightly differently each time, and if you're not doing instantaneous switching then I'm afraid out memory for sound just isnt that good when it comes to small differences or lack of.

👍
However as per the other posts fully covering the non bias reasoning and fairness in testing culminating in the giving of my "opinion" and not feeling the need to defend myself, yet as I'm sure it's all in good fun so will further add-

It is indeed an "Instantaneous" switching A to B using the amp selection analogue 1 and 2 inputs via a Hegal H-190 which is as quick as your fingers can push.
(for the longevity of the amp I give a brief pause in the music before switching despite the amps automatic millisecond circuit muting)
As said I own the three CD players so there's no preconceived notions or bias involved only the listening for differences when I had a free afternoon, I even for lazies sake used a dual RCA splitter between the Marantz CD 60 and CD 52 MK2 but removed it after finding no difference between the CD 52 and 6007.

In the interest of fairness and because I'm over analytical to the point of causing me problems in life removed the RCA splitter and just went A to B with the 6007 and CD 52 for awhile hearing no difference at all, after a few instant switches between each not even knowing in all honesty which player was which, the Hegal remote automatically attunes to most ancilieries stopping the different remotes giving it away and the displays where facing away from me, the CD 6007 was removed and the CD 60 put in it's place, thinking it prudent and ever more interesting in the "spirit of thread" to put the oldest being the CD 52 MK2 (a highly acclaimed budget CD player in 1993) against a new CD 60 Mid-Range player, only then if listened for was there a subtle (but) undeniable difference.

The main thing to note is what's pertained to in my prior messages, I fully did not expect there to be much if indeed any difference between "Quality" players although did expect maybe the line voltage you eluded to might of needed volume matching which actually didn't.
I'm always swapping/demoing through kit regularly so in cases of cycling between amps and speakers the use of a Douk audio switcher was used for awhile but with amps and especially speakers the difference is instantaneously made that clear without the subtleties.

I've djayed both for fun and part time income since my early teens, living through what was for the masses a slow change from Vinyl to CD and then to Software in which I adhered only briefly myself, not to go off topic suffice to say I saw a highly skilled profession turn to an "anybody can do it software" I stayed with Vinyl and CD decks in which more to point 👉 I went through countless amounts of all makes and models in which a CD player was often used back then for the a backing track to be remixed over etc freeing up the 2 vinyl decks, up until my very late teens I only had limited gear so everything was done the proper/old fashioned way at first this was a Philips CD 604 then the very Marantz CD 52MK2 photoed (that's testament to the CD 52's quality) and all sorts in-between which would find there way to me as my father constantly upgraded whilst I grew up, in which they where mixed directly between, over and together and believe me everything in-between to be played through, thanks to my father as a kid growing up a constantly evolving hifi like my lowly to his setup.
With my Sansui au-502 then to become a mission Cyrus then pioneer a-400 with mission 760i and tannoy M15's so on and so forth I heard that little difference then and remember him having the same conundrum even back then.

As said sure there's definitely HUGE differences in sound quality with ultra cheap crap and bad CD players but IMO once a pinnacle of sorts is reached even with some budget CDP's then the gap closes immediately and only the DAC seems to me flavours things ever so subtlety.

Audiolab make several transports. It is not a brand usually associated with Audio B/S. Whilst I personally can't comment on any audible differences I would say there is a high likely hood they are there, however minute they may be. I use their 6000A.

They make them because there's a market for them!
