Just ordered this on orange vinyl, which should look lovely on my turntable.

I have to confess that I just don't get the appeal of Flaming Lips at all; I understand why most bands are popular even if I don't much care for them, but not this lot.

With apologies.

They're a band you have to see live I think. I've only seen them once, but my wife and I spent the whole gig grinning until our faces hurt.

I don't know which songs/albums you've heard Jim, but there are 3 tunes on the Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots album which are some of my favourite songs ever, and the song Do You Realise is close to my favourite song ever, it moves me every time I hear it.

Well maybe I ought to see them live then. I bought 'Yoshimi' because of reviews, played it a couple of times and decided it just wasn't my thing at all. Funny really because I think I ought to like them; it wasn't unpleasant or anything, but it just didn't grab me. I just didn't get it I guess.

I'm not a massive fan of the albums, though some of their tunes are wonderful, I just love them as a band, what they are, what they stand for. I've also heard 3 or 4 of the tracks from this new album, and they're absolutely bonkers, and I quite like a bit of bonkers.

It's their record of the month and boy was I blown away by Too Bright by Perfume Genius, genius isn't far short! Best album I've heard all year, the vinyl is ordered!

Inside The Pleasure Dome - Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Sneer if you will, but it was a big album when I was growing up, and the 20 minute track on the first side of the album is fantastic. Probably the most in depth box set I've seen for a single album.

nowt wrong with that - still a masterpiece - I play it regular

+1 Bang on, a timeless classic that takes me right back!

Shaun Of The Dead OST - and lucky me got the randomly inserted Winchester Ale edition! (I did copy and paste a pic, but it doesn't seem to be showing)

Nice to hear it's still running *biggrin*

It is, but I have 2 Pioneer PL12Ds and a Sharp RP1144 as spares now, just in case.

What do you reckon to the 12D's, soundwise?

I said I have them as spares, I didn't say they were actually working. *smile*

I was hoping my wife would sort them all out for me (she has the skills and the time), keep one of the 12Ds to use as a spare, and sell the other plus the Sharp.

I spent £45 in total for the three, all the motors are working. I think my best plan is to get one Pioneer working well (just needs one wire re-soldering I think), sell the other as it is for about £30, and stick a cheap belt on the Sharp to sell it for about £30. If all goes as planned, I get a free PL-12D to use, or at very worst, a cheap one.

Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden - Killers

Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast

Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind

Iron Maiden - Powerslave

Junior Murvin - Police And Thieves

Future Sound Of London - Environment Five

I'd like to hear the Junior Murvin one...

Today, got through the post an original press of Bluejeans & Moonbeams by Captain Beefheart & (not) The Magic Band. His worst album, one I very rarely bother listening to, but the only album I didn't have an original copy of. Now I do. Hopefully I'll be able to sell the repress for more than this original...

Me too! I bought it on the basis of the title track that I have on a Trojan Records Roots compilation.

but I've been hunting for this high and low. Rekindles fantastic childhood memories for me and wanted my daughter to enjoy these festive delights played on vinyl.

A bit of a metal fan? You and Bernie should get together, he's a closet metal fan *biggrin*

Original copy of Sonic Youth-EVOL bought on Discogs.

I'm going to invest in a few Sonic Youth albums, I've got Bad Moon Rising and now EVOL, which other ones would you recommend?

The obvious one is Daydream Nation, also Goo

My personal fave is Experimental Jet, Trash and no Star

Thurston Moore's new one The Best Day is really good too

Thanks Jimbo

I was thinking of those three, plus Dirty and maybe Sister. They're a band that tick all of the boxes for me, but I've never really listened to them properly.

I've heard one track from the new Thurston Moore album, but it didn't really appeal on the first few listens.

Hmm, Sonic Youth, another band I liked a lot when they were around but somehow never got around to buying any of their records (friends had them, and also on reflection I realise that I seemed to specialise in buying stuff that wasn't really that good). Might have to invest in a few now to see what I think of them all these years later. Thanks for the prompt, you two.

They were a band my mate liked, but I just never got into them for some reason, but they are definitely originators, and as I said, they tick all the boxes for me, so I'm not sure why I didn't buy their records at the time. Looking at the prices now, I really wish I had.
