Being new to this analogue cables are known as phone to phone correct? What brand would you recomend for analogue stereo cables.

Phono to phono, yes.

I'd suggest something like Chord Company Chorus 3 as a sensibly-priced interconnect for this. Or if that's a bit rich for you, Chord Crimson.
