There's a 2nd hand Devialet Le Expert 120 on Fleabay for a little over 2K.......

You'd be getting superb sound quality, beautiful aesthetics, lots of clean, neutral power, a DAC, streamer and sexy remote as part of the package.....

At least worth a look?

How can a remote control be sexy? Does the devialet come with a noisy power supply?

Ever used one? it is, at the very least, for a remote, a sensual experience. The power supply on my unit is, and always has been, completely silent.

Grossed me out. A sensual experience - thats disgusting Dont buy second hand equipment from Infiniteloop This must be a wind up Please no more discriptions of your remote fetish.

Cars are often described as sexy and driving a sensual experience, so why can that not be applied to anything else? If you'd ever used a Devialet remote you would know that the volume control has a tactile quality to it's action which exudes quality.

The only disgusting thing here is what is inside your head.

I think I'd like to do away with amps and just get a pair of devialet phantoms (silver preferably).anyone heard them as a pair?

I have and frankly I was disappointed. Huge, powerful and punchy bass (for the size of the units), but there is no magic in the midrange. I personally thought it all sounded a little synthetic and far short of the results I get with either pair of speakers I use with a D200.

I heard them at the Bristol Show. Most disappointing, no nice HiFi boxes to look at but instead a pair of eggs which seemed to be provided by extra terrestial alliens. A slight improvement as to looks in comparison with B&O gear. As to sound must admit not bad. The experience was a warning shot as to what HiFi will look like (or consist) in the future. *sad*

They would look better in matt black.

Still, an amazing exercise in engineering. For some years beforehand Devialet apparently recruited some of the best brains to aid development of its products, not just the phantom.

Compare the result with your average hifi amplifier ... . Many use off the shelf power modules in theirs and add fancy packaging or build on 50 year old circuits.

Sound quality aside (subjective) what Devialet have done is quite remarkable for a hifi product.

I can't say the shiny finishes or white phantoms are quite to my taste though.

Look up Objectophilia
Then go back and see how you talk about your hifi.
Hope this helps.

Can IL and Andrew please stop this nonsence. Both of you are sniping at each other like a couple of spoiled school girls.

@ Andrew: You made around half a dozen posts on this thread and you've yet to contribute in a constructive way. Either make a suggestion, based on the subject, or just don't post on this thread at all.

Thank you.

Too much acting on impulse.

See what I did there?

Have a look at the Perraux. I think it looks good and the brand is highly regarded in the high end.

Two Tucana's on the bay, one original the other an MKii. The former is on for under £1200, not a bad price for an amp that now costs over £3000!

I am looking forward to your impressions. Take your amplifier with you if you can.

The Yamaha looks good, as do others. A lot of very capable products out there.

Have fun.

Just want to stand up for you infinite. Your original comment made me sit back in my seat also, but we all make funny comments sometimes. But calling someone a pervert for making a comment about a remote control being sexy was out of line, and I'm sure it's not something you would get away with saying to someone's face, and remain standing up. Absolutely disgusting words from Andrew.

The correct term is Objectophilia
Or as in the car discription used as the back up explanation
Mechanophilia

That is not healthy talk

This thread reminds me exactly why I dont contribute on here much any more

PP - do you really think a change of amp is going to have the desired effect ?

ive listend to loads of £2k amps and to be honest there isnt a lot in it.

What is the you aversion to Scandinavian amps?

Recently spent a lot of time with a friend who was going to change his Nait 1 to give him more detail etc etc - just told him to get a Nagaoka MP110 & some Dali Zenosr 1 - the improvement is massive

I hope i have not upset you again plastic penguin?

Hows the search for a greater amp?
I know you have demo in line for saturday?
Is it only the yamaha you will test? Are you taking the leema with you?

What did you think about the leema on ebay i sent you?

Did you like it?

@Stevebrock

The honest truth is I don't know for sure if a 2k or thereabouts will make much difference. I like to think it will but in real terms I'm not sure if it will. This is the reason why I'm having a dem of one or two on Saturday.

In previous post you mentioned speakers. Then again, will that make a significant difference? The PMCs are no slouches when it comes to detail, subtlety and definition.

Although I've heard a number of amps over recent years, I've not directly compared them (or rarely) to my current amp.

Perhaps in terms of speaker/amp/pricing/sound quality I've hit a plateux, and need to move both on to make the required impact.

The weekend will be a good starting point..
