Just re-read AE's review of Marantz's SA and PM-14S1 SE's in HN&RR October 2015.

Seems a very good amplifier by any standards (and any price).

Why not just be done and get a Tucana?

Keeps the British thing with the PMC too.

It'll drive any future speaker change/upgrade.

You know you want one.

Looks good too.

May well go that route. However, I don't want to be seen as a one brand owner. I will dem others over the next few days (after Easter) and see which one take my fancy.

if you want real upgrade go for second hand gryphon amp.. naim, bryston or accuphase can't even touch gryphon's sound qualities.. probably not your price range but I mention this as a real real upgrade instead going sideways

A good recommendation but PP won't consider any equipment from Scandanavia. *stop* *smile*

Hi PP

Im quite convinced you should take Drummermans oriignal advice and not bother with upgrading to a slightly better amp !

If im honest in terms of SQ my Primare i32 sounds pretty much the same as my Elciit R - clean transparent - biggest influence on SQ imo is Speakers or Cartridge

Put you £££££ somewhere else

This thread has made for some interesting reading.

i have the same amp, and I'm very happy with it. But if I was to replace it for whatever reason, I was looking at Used Luxman or Accuphase. And the new Marantz PM14S1-SE, which looks very good for the money. And will probably be discounted a few months down the line.

I would go for the aforementioned mentioned Marantz. I had the Pearl lite and the new SE edition Marantz would be a big leap from that. Creative Audio have it reduced to £1399. The matching SACD player is the same price and would make a great combination. I love them in champagne gold, so much more interesting than black. Alternatively, £2000 would definitely make a speaker upgrade that would be instantly discernable.

Interested to know how you suddenly found two grand.

PP buying an outgoing mid tier Marantz to replace the Leema. lolz *biggrin*

Mmmmh, AE's review conclusion was pretty adamant. Mid tier price maybe but sound everything but ... .

Do agree though somehow. The next significant step up from a £3000 one unless there is something that buggs him significantly about his Leema.

However, the Marantz may be one of the few SS integrated at the Pulses price sounding different enough to warrant consideration?

If he gets a chance to listen to it why not?

Been in bed most of the weekend with flu.

Mid-tier Marantz is a no no and the same for a Naim XS2, as I don't think it'll give enough uplift. I like Marantz but have found their midrange amps to be slightly woolly sounding for my taste.

No issues with the Leema, still puts a smile on my face and is working well (no mechanical or electrical glitches).

No Chebby. It's still on. Just after a little deliberation I've discounted certain brands and models based the upgrade would be minimal at best.

Later this week I'll *** over to Infidelity Hi-fi and listen to Blacksabbeth's Yamaha 2100. Looks pretty funky but if it's signature is of older Yams it won't be a goer.

Gotta start somewhere.

your welcome to pop round mine and hear my amp with speakers that go very well with the A-S2100 and i know a place you could buy this amp open box like new repackaged from yamaha for around £1200 -£1300 which i think is a bargain .

I see the point about not going for an XS2 -- but why not a second-hand or ex-demo Supernait 2? The SN2 is certainly a healthy step-up from the XS2; and Naim's great quality makes second-hand and ex-demo superb value-for-money purchases. That's how I could afford my XS2/ND5XS "Naim starter kit". *biggrin*
