So I'm struggling to see the benefits of this over an android box running XBMC, other than the Fire TV is more expensive.

Can Prime subscribers access Amazon instant video from Android box?

No, but why would you need to.

Why not? I'm an Amazon Prime member, and I'm getting instant video added on. Why wouldn't I want to watch the films on my TV?

I am too lazy, can you explain?

Thing is, most people don't know anything about this stuff, and they will see a box that will allow them to watch their Amazon Prime Instant Videos on their telly, and they will think that is cool. It'll sell in droves (well, to prime users anyway, of which they claim 20 million).

I'd guess £99, but whatever. It might actually mean I would use instant video, because the last place I want to watch videos is on my devices, generalising.

I'd be amazed if it was only £59. I read that as the BBC simply saying that the currency equivalent of $99 is £59. That's true according to Yahoo currency converter. There's no release date for the UK anyway.

We have Amazon Video on the TV from the old LoveFilm days. The switchover was crap, resulting in hundreds, if not thousands, of complaints on Amazon's customer discussion boards. They broke the app on some Samsung TV's and had to pay compo.

During the downtime we trialled Netflix (via Chromecast) and love it. In due course I'll cancel the video and Prime and stick with Netflix which also works fine on our android stuff.

Amazon really, really want you to watch their content on their kit.

Walled garden, another box and wires. Not for us. But for casual gamers with kids who want an add-on streaming video service along with Prime delivery, it'll sell.
