We are looking to buy a new tv between now and January 2008 and would like any good advice on which model to buy. Are we better waiting until January for a better deal? There are so many models available we do not know which to buy. At a later date we will be buying a hd player to play movies and possibly upgrade to sky hd.

The budget is upto £1400.00. The specification we require is as below:

42" to 47" LCD

Full HD

Best quality picture available

Please help

HI there,

Well, prices seem to be falling every minute - and with the new-range sets only just hitting the market, there's bound to be some discounting between now and January.

Don't get too hung up on Full HD - the best picture quality doesn't always mean the most pixels. Instead focus on a set able to accept native Full HD at 24fps (frames per second) for the smoothest picture. That could be a Full HD set like the Panasonic TH-42PZ70 (list price £1400, available for less) or our current favourite 42in set, Pioneer's PDP-428XD (list price £2000, heading down towards your budget-level).

Full reviews of both these sets are in our current, November issue.

If you do want to wait - and/or go for a larger set - we're planning a Group Test of 46in TVs for our January issue, which comes out mid-December.
