Is it possible to get a decent 37" TV around £400 these days? It's for my girlfriend's parents, and I'm sure they wouldn't spot every last detail in the picture. Just looking for a solid all round performer, preferably 1080p, but probably not essential.

I have done a search on the forums, but can't find anything relevant to me.

All advice much appreciated.

Thanks

http://www.electronicworldtv.co.uk/search.php?page=4&shortsearch=1&stype=0&sz=8&brand=0 there is quite a few on there but you will never get full hd for under 600.00, the ones in your price range are hd ready but....having read into this, it seems that full hd is pointless at 37". Therefore I would google for reviews of those tv's which do fall into your price bracket.

You can get the Panansonic 37PX8 for £425 from 123electrical. The best buy 37" is it's brother, the 37PX80. Whilst not quite as good as the PX80, the PX8 is excellent value for money at this price.

look in the forums "hot deals" on the post I put in re Toshiba shep

Yeah, thanks Shep. I saw that offer, and I have just phoned around all my local Sainsburys, and wouldn't you know it - none in stock!

My local Richer Sounds las some decent clearance offers on - I can pick up either an LG 37LF75, a 37LY95, a Hitachi L37V01U or a Toshiba 37CV505B. Full HD isn't a priority I don't think, as the only HD input they have is the V+ box, which is obviously only 720p anyway. I can't see them getting a Bluray player.

Do the LGs sound decent value at £400?

Rob,the LG's are ok, dependant on the connections on the back, My preference is Toshiba because I have a Toshiba SD360 dvd player and the connections are plentiful,if you run an component,or better still hdmi, from your sony dvd to tv you should get very good quality video,do you run a coaxial or optical from your dvd player to your amp for audio ?

regards,Shep

Cheers Shep, I ended up going for the LG 37LG3000 from Richer Sounds for £400 with a free 5 year warranty thrown in (the benefits of knowing the manager!!) - excellent service as ever from RS. It wasn't actually for me though, it was for my girlfriend's parents - I love my Sony tv - no plans to change to an LG yet!

We managed to get a reasonably priced stand as well, and I've got it all set up, and they love it. It's a good step up from what they had. The only HD source they have at the moment is BBC HD on Virgin, so no need to go for a top of the range full HD tv. And anyway, it's surely better than the Bush they were planning on getting!
