Hi All

Has anyone tried this acousti-wool as Russ Andrews calls it! - just fancied trying it in my front BR2's.

But my queries are!

Do the BR2's have anything already in them to change?

Or is it a waste of time doing this?

& lastly will the difference be noticable or just be better for the speakers performance by helping the soundwaves to not 'bounce' back to the speaker & just helping them to work more effectively?

thanks

I read another post several months ago where someone padded out his BR2's with wool and claimed a significant improvement in sound. I was considering doing my BR2's but my upgradeitus required stronger medicine so thanks to Frank Harvey I got a bargain pair of ex-display Dynaudio DM 2/7's before Crimbo which, after about 40 hours of running in, are starting to reveal their many talents.

Back to the BR2's and acousti-wool. I would say give it a go, by improving the speaker damping there should be some payback in sound quality I would have thought. Or is there someone out there with first hand experience who knows otherwise?

having used a similar product it seems to make the enclosure seem bigger to the driver allowing a bit more Bass. (lower frequency).

what are you trying to get from the speakers?

Thanks for the reply folks, I think I will give it ago, if there is nothing to lose I might as well give it a go

Regards what im hoping to get from the speakers - nothing really! just wondered if its a worthy cheap little exercise to either aid the speaker in performance or have a little improvement on sound, or tiny bit of either or both will do!

Overall i am very pleased with the speakers especially for the price, they work very well with my yamaha 863se amp via my chord carnival silverscreen wire. The current sound seems very well balanced & a nice natural open sound especially when playing flac audio streamed from the pc through to my ps3 slim.

There was a fad some years ago, started by Jimmy Hughes in Hi-Fi Answers I think, for removing all wool/foam from inside loudspeakers.

This was claimed to make them sound better ...

Well folks acousti wool finally turned up & was installed in my BR2's last night.

Have to say not much difference at all - i may say that the bass is a little smoother sounding & more precise at higher volumes but over all at 'normal' listening volumes i am unable to tell any difference.

Its a shame there is little difference before and after you applied the acousi-wool.

But when you get one of those hifi tweaks embedded in your head, you have to try it out, for better or for worse. Next time it may be for the better.

At the very least, your curiosity has been satisfied. I hope it didn't cost you too much!

And thanks for the writeup. It may help someone else in the future.
