Cleaning my teeth this morning, and Whitney Houston came on the radio. Initially, I was given to thinking what a waste to have lost so many artists far too soon.
Then it occurred to me - perhaps what we should be doing instead is to celebrate those who are still with us ( in many cases despite excesses in their earlier lives ! ).
So, to kick us off, I would like to nominate the following as Living Legends :

Eric Clapton - politics aside, his playing can make me cry.
Paul McCartney - still doing this biz.
The Rolling Stones - all of them !
Rick Wakeman - just love the man.
Robert Plant - awesome.
Carl Palmer - just trust me on this one - check him out on YT.

A bit UK-centric I know, but long may they live !

I suspect that one thing any suggestions will have in common, is that their best tracks will always be in the past.
e g
Stevie Wonder & Nile Rogers.
That's a fair comment, Gray. ( I'm playing all their old stuff ! ).
But given these guys back catalogue, I reckon they've done their creative bit for the World.

Surely Townshend and Daltrey belong on this list?
Good shout there, Clarkey.

Although we do run the risk of being accused of nominations that are too British, too male and too white !

It's nothing deliberate, folks - probably just down to my initial interest in music being in the 60s/70s. ( Plenty of legendary Motown artists in my collection - some still alive. And some of my favourite vocalists are female - Anastacia,Dusty Springfield,Christina Aguilera,Lucie Silvas,Kate Bush etc. )

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to nominate Steve Hillage. He surely is one of the best and most unique songwriter/guitarists to have graced this world with his presence. Not everyone's cup of tea but he has a very long list of admirers.
Check out his album "Live Herald".
Excellent.
