I still like Brook Benton's, the first I ever heard; and my favorite and most interesting version is a 7:38 one by Shelby Lynne -the last track in her Suit Yourself album. Be patient, not hearing anything, then only her quiet strumming till :38. It's the nicest musically, for me, including her nice gui'tar with a lovely, rainy 2:38 instrumental ending...She's got a great voice, but as it's sung from the perspective of a hobo, I reckon the grittier Charles voice works better for me!
There was something really magical about the original movie. Loved the sound track.
My mum had it at hers. Can't hear it without getting emotional.View: https://open.spotify.com/track/4aLcGMxwFtcZRpl7NDtNW2?si=c808b87258924138
I'm annoyed Donald Trump likes this, but I'm not going to get political.
This is the track I want played at my funeral, hopefully a few years away!
