SYML at the Islington London.

It is a very small venue attached to a pub / bar that only holds about 80 people so quite intimate .

Syml which means 'simple' in Welsh is a one man band with Brian Fennell a singer songwriter.

ABOUT. From his basement recording studio in the small town of Issaquah, WA outside Seattle, Brian Fennell wrote and recorded a collection of songs under the name Syml, which means simple in Welsh. Adopted and not knowing his history or connection to his Welsh roots, many of these songs were influenced by the complex feelings that come from unknown lineage.

His voice is beautiful as is the backing music with him on keys and two ladies on violin and Cello, it was his first paying public gig but judging by the performance it surely won't be his last.

I feel privileged to have been there !

This one is for contrast.

It was just Susanne on vocals, piano, guitar and keys with a lady called Megan on synths and other instrments.

We sat spellbound through the whole performance !

Aynsley Lister, at the 100 club London.

F-ing Brilliant !

He was supported by a couple of other blues bands that were OK ish, the Mark Pontin Group and Jimmy Regal and the Royals, but Aynsley just tore the place up he was in a different class !

All for the princely sum of £15.

I've seen Aynsley Lister several times over the years. He always puts on a great show and he gets better and better. I've bought most of his albums over the years and play them regularly.

Wille and the Bandits next for me, again an absolutely stonkingly good live band and well worth £15 of anyones money.

Wille and the Bandits at Bury Met last night.

These really are a wonderful live band, if they are passing your way they are a must see act.

I should also mention the support act, Blackballed. A great high octane 30 minute set to set the night off nicely.

Lizz Wright at the Union Chapel Islington.

All I can say is that it was probably the most enjoyable, and uplifting gig I have been to for many years Lizz was superb as were here band, the whole place came alive with beautiful music and a sense of love and joy .

A very special evening indeed !

Anybody who wants to experience live music at it's best should visit the Union Chapel , the sound quality last night was the best I have ever heard at a live amplified gig, the natural ambience and reverb of the venue adds to the talent and skill of the sound engineers to make a truly memorable performance .

Music like this makes life worth living. *i-m_so_happy*

Florence Black and Skam at The Patriot, Crumlin on Sunday 22nd April. Two great bands on a headlining tour. As this was near FB's home town, they got to headline this time. Firstly the place was sold out and jam packed. The Patriot is an ex-biker club, so there is always a close-up and personal show at this venue. Skam did play an awful lot from their new CD, the first 7 songs in fact. That is far too many for a support band and the crowd were slow to warm to sings they didn't know. It wasn't until ''No Lies'' that the venue really rocked out.

Florence Black have built up a large following in the valleys and now have some international tours under their belt. For a 3 piece band they really do make a wall of sound. Surprise of the night was one of their friends in the audience joining them on stage to sing Neil Young's ''Rocking In The Free World''. Brilliant cover version of Budgie's ''Breadfan'' too. Keep an eye out for this band.

My most recent gig would have been George Benson at the Cliffs Pavilion Southend on Sea but it was cancelled at the last minute due to George not being well enough to perform .

We were absolutely gutted as it is very unlikely we will ever have the chance to see him again.

What makes it even worse is that Eric Bibb was his support !

Gutted does not do justice to how we feel. *cray2*

I hope George makes a full recovery.

I was at the Happy Mondays last weekend in the O2 academy in Glasgow. Was good fun but you could tell they were just going through the motions if you looked a little deeper. I've got Primal Scream coming up in December in the Barrowland which I'm really looking forward to. The Scream could easily fill one of the larger and more corporate venues at a far higher ticket price. Bobby G and co just want to play the barras at Christmas, should be a cracking gig.

A couple of things...

1 - Shouldn't this thread be under "gigs and events"?
2 - My day job is in live sound, so there'd be a danger of me spamming this thread with gigs. That said, I can provide technical info that might be of interest to you all.

Thoughts?

Chris

We've moved the thread, but yes don't advertise. If you want to start a thread for advice on live event technical info, that sounds very cool and a great way to help the community, as long as it doesn't link to your services.

Also I'm incredibly jealous of your job. :ROFLMAO:
