Yamaha YSP 1400 connection

The manual says connect tv optical out to the YSP optical in, if this is not availble then connect each playback device via the relevent inputs on YSP.

Question is watching a youtube video of it, the reviewer said that the tv compresses the sound from the tv optical output, is this correct, my tv is Panasonic txp42g30b.

Ya, i would like to know the answer as well. Considering YSP-1400 with Philips 5140

Got Philips one from Amazon yesterday for £240. Now that YSP1400 is on sale and cost even less than the philips (£179) This made me think again as both of them scored 5 stars here in WhatHiFi reviews. But they were tested on different price point.

My question now becomes whether I should keep the Philips for the HDMI and subwoofer, or should I return the Philips and get the Yamaha instead for £60 less.

I don't mind the build-in subwoofer of YSP1400, as long as it produces good the sound quality when compare at the same price point with the Philips one
