If the worst happens, and your 2020 does not arrive, have you considered buying from overseas?

In France, Darty are selling the 2020 for €1299 which works out at approx £1130 at current exchange rate.

Surprisingly the 1020 is €1390 , when it should really cost less than the 2020.

I realise that there may be postage involved, unless you take a weekend break to France.

Oldboy

1020 is in stock now, just ordered one, 2020 doesn't seem to be in stock.

If height is tight suggest QuietPC for small fans. I use 2 which are quieter than my SkyHD box and keep things really cool. Just an additional thought.

Thank you for the suggestion...could you give me more info about the fans you use please, perhaps a link? Thanks.

This is an option as well:

Update:

Had a phone call this morning, the 1020 is actually not in stock, but the 2020 seems to be in stock either now, or very soon.

I now have to decide whether I should go for the 2020 instead.

Bit expensive but got me thinking if I may make a diy fan enxlosure for the amp but a separate one for the sky box. As with laptop coolers, it has to line up with equipment slots and the sky box has side vents. Off to find some mdf or maybe a plastic box to butcher.

Now I'm fumimg BBB!!!

Where is my phone call then?? I have a deposit down to secure one but I've had no contact...in my humble opinion that is awful customer service.

I really feel like I am being given the run around now and i'm bitterly disappointed with Creative Audio, I'm going to put my complaint in writing this weekend and fire it off to them with a view to getting my deposit back and going elsewhere as I can't see I have any choice now. Absolutely gutted to put it politely 😡

I just hope you secure one to prove they do actually have stock and do actually supply them to some lucky customers, let me know what you decide and how you get on.

Don't go mad at them yet. I've just had a phone conversation with them, and they do not have the 2020 in yet, but they are expecting them before the 1020, maybe next week.

But they could be giving me the sales patter, I don't know.

Maybe if you ring them you will get a definite delivery date from them.

That sounds very much like all the promises I have been given over the last month...next week...always next week but nothing ever materialises.

I'm going to vote with my feet and go elsewhere, after a month of waiting i've had enough and got to the end of my tether and patience, it's not a problem getting one elsewhere and it seems only Creative have issues getting stock.

I will be polite but firm, it's not worth having an argument over it's just a shame they can't deliver on their promises which is very disappointing.

You're not going to get it anywhere near that price though Oldboy, might be worth waiting a little longer.

They said to me that it was a mistake to put the 1020 as in stock on their website, but as far as I know, the £699 has been taken out of my account, so I am getting a little concerned, as I don't want to be waiting for ages, £699 light in my account.

They said they'd either ring me Monday, or when it was in stock with an answer to my query.

Oldboy, I read your posts with sympathy and relief.

Sympathy because I know how frustrating it must be and relief as I was very close to ordering a 2020 from Creative earlier this week. They told me I'd either have it yesterday or the beginning of next week. This is probably unlikely given your posts!

Anyway, I have always been a fan of Yamaha AVRs and have had nothing else. My 3rd and most recent model has just let me down which is why I was considering the 2020. However, it's recent failure and Yamaha's lack of interest in supporting me tarnished my enthusiasm for buying another one.

I ended making the very risky move of buying a new amp without demo having done shed loads of reading about it.

I settled on an Anthem MRX300 and all I can say is that I am stunned by it. I am familiar with the 2020 and can confirm that the Anthem is vastly superior in audio performance. It is lacking in features compared to the Yamaha but it has all the features I need and performance is the most important quality for me.

This could be a blessing in disguise for you. I can recommend talking to Home Cinema Centre. They will give you very honest, straight forward, knowledgable advice and were very competitive on prices.

Don't be put off by the Anthem's conservative power rating, to me it sounds more powerful than the Yamaha. The sound has tremendous body and solidity. The room correction is absolutely world class and has filtered down from the £8k processor I believe. This highly sophisticated room correction leads to the most detailed AV experience I have had. It is not for the faint hearted in terms of set up though but well worth it and your dealer will support you.

I hope that helps. In summary, buy an Anthem MRX300.

Regards.

But can you get the Anthem for price of the 1020 / 2020 that Oldboy & BBB are getting?

You can't; but had I not recently replaced my receiver, I'd be very tempted to pay the difference. (Subject to audition. The EQ function sounds supremely effective.)

The Anthem seems like a fantastic amp, and soundwise, probably superior to the Yammys, but it makes the Onkyos look pretty.

They took the £699 out your account......

I'd be tempted to drive down there and get that money back or walk away with an equivalent amp. Thats plain out of order. The advert should be removed if they are unable to deliver for the price quoted - imagine 10 orders would have netted them £6990 with nothing delivered only the cost of a phonecall to tell you what you already know.

as I said earlier I got mine for the price of the 2020 from a high st dealer who could not match the advert but came down by a considerible amount to the RRP £1000 all I did was print out the advert with the price on, they checked it out on the net ( it was out of stock then well over a month ago now) and made me an offer.

Get your money back!

I've just checked, and the money hasn't actually come out of my account, but it's in limbo.

So it seems that they are holding it until they get a decision from me about the 2020, and they are not a dodgy retailer, so I'm sure I can trust them to return it straight away if I don;t take up the offer of the 2020.

I'm not over impressed with them, because if pretending they have stock is a deliberate act just to get money in the bank, then it's out of order.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Hi strapped for cash

Anthem's room correction (ARC) is superb

Thanks Rick. I believe you!

Unfortunately I'm not in the market for a new receiver, having replaced my AVR just two months ago.

BBB,

Did you go through the payment procedure on the website then? If so then I can understand why the money was taken but it's still not good that they took the money out of your account for a product they don't actually have in stock, I'm sure you will be refunded should you decide to not go through with a purchase though.

I know the price quoted by Creative is very hard to beat but after a month of waiting i'm sure you can all understand why I'm going to shop elsewhere and pay the extra to actually get the receiver I want rather than continue to be led a merry dance by Creative Audio, I'm going to shop around and see if I can get any retailer to drop their price to somewhere around the £1000-1200 mark and if so I will go for it and cancel my order from Creative. I'm at the stage now where i've lost all faith in Creative as a retailer and in their ability to actually supply the 2020 so i'm now looking at alternatives if I can't get the 2020 for a good price.

The_Real_Malcolm_Tucker

Many thanks for the suggestion regarding the Anthem MRX300 and at the £1100 price range it does fall into the same price bracket as what i'm prepared to apy for the Yamaha 2020 so I will see if I can get a demo of it as it's not something i've considered up to now but considering the difficulties i've had in getting a demo of the 2020 I don't hold out much hope of getting to hear one. I will consider it though for sure.

I have given them the benefit of the doubt for a month now and it's got me nothing apart from continued excuses. I know the price is tempting but I would seriously consider shopping elsewhere as my experience over the last month is proof that they simply won't be able to supply the 1020 or 2020 at the prices quoted anytime soon (if at all).

I don't think they are deliberately holding your payment they are just waiting for you to make a decision. If I was to say I wasn't overly impressed with them that would be a major undersatement and I seriously doubt if I will ever shop with them again, if you can't deliver on your promises and prices then you shouldn't lead customers on and take their money in the first place.

Personally i'm happy to pay the extra cash and actually get the receiver than continue to hold out hope that Creative may one day be able to supply one.

I haven't actually set my heart on getting this receiver, and still have a few niggling doubts about whether it will fit where I want it to go.

They said they would let me know the answer to my question next week, if they don't, and then don't send the amp out, they've lost a sale.

Are you anywhere near derby oldboy? I know Rick has the anthem in and from his classifieds elsewhere I think he has stock of the yamaha too.

In that case that's a very sensible way in which to proceed.

I'm just frustrated and annoyed that there never seems to be any definitive answers as to when either of the amps will be in stock and now having set my heart on the 2020 i'm just of the mind that the extra cost is justified to get one from another retailer to put an end to the continued waiting game with Creative.

Keep me up to date with how you get on with them and the answers you get next week, I really hope it's good news fingers crossed.

Unfortuantely I'm down south in Essex and dealers stocking either are extremely hard to find. I tried Sevenoaks which is the best dealer in my area and they had none of the latest Yamahas in the showroom for demo, might go back to see if they have the Anthem though.

It seems that unless I make a trip to London or up North then I have no chance of getting a demo of either of them, how come most of the dealers are based up North yet down here it's extremely difficult to find a good dealer that stocks higher end equipment??
