:~ I have a bit of Dali emma 🙂 as to which item to purchase & therefore after some advice.

Having purchased a pair of Dali Ikon 5's & a Vocal 1 centre speaker last year, these have taken around 3 months to run in & since Christmas sound good with my Denon 1910. I am mulling over either purchasing a Dali Centre Vocal 2 ( the Ikon 1 is good but seems to have developed more bass over time & i've re-setup my system since they have been run in ), or do i jump in & get a new A/V Amp.

The short list of amps i have come up with, assuming i can sell my Denon 1910 on fleabay is the Yamaha 767, Denon 2311 or Pioneer 920 all of which can be had for less than £4oo.

My previous A/V amps have been a Sherwood, Technics , Marantz 4200 & a Pioneer 1017 & none of them have realy hit the spot quite so well as the Denon. Technology moves on, so all suggestions welcome, i am after an audition if i can arrange it

Having tried all but one of the brands mentioned above, the Yamaha is very tempting ( would it be a good match for the Dali Speakers? I could upgrade the centre at a later date ).

I am not interested in Internet radio, although 3D tv may be a consideration in a couple of years down the line. I mainly use my amp for Films & TV about 80 - 90% not much for cd or radio music.

In anticipation thankyou for any advice or matching selections.

Hi Paul,

I wouldn't have thought that any of the AV receivers you have shortlisted would do justice to your superb speakers. I would suggest you try and get a home dem on the Pioneer SCLX83, AVR400, Denon 4311 or others of that ilk.

Of the amps you list the 920 will be the best partner for the Dali's and if you can move to a Vokal 2 you will notice the gains there too. The ribbon tweeter in the 2 matches with the 5's.

The 920 is actually fine with the Dali's. Quite randomly we have been running our Helicon in-walls on a 920 and although it is not an obvious match the combination really works. Although an LX83 will give the OP much more the budget doesnt appear to go that far. A 920 with a new centre will deliver big gains.

As i am now unemployed unfortunately, finances are a bit stretched to go up to that kind of level of expenditure. Out of your suggestions ( had i got the money ) i would consider demoing the Pioneer & the Arcam, but my rack space is at a premium & the Pioneer would not fit in, it is too high.

The Yamaha appeared on paper to offer probably one of the best upgrades i can reasonably afford, as i could add another subwoofer at a later date if required & add the Ikon Vocal 2 Centre, finances permitting of course.

I agree i need the vocal 2 centre, but would it be better to sell my exsisting centre, get the Ikon vocal 2 & keep my Denon amp ? or sell my Denon amp & keep the exsisting centre? where do you think would i notice the biggest difference?

Thankyou ..

The 920 will lift your whole system so that would be my first choice rather than the centre - you might get a deal buying it along with the centre though and get the best of both worlds.

I still don't think the 920 is sufficient, but given your options it isn't a huge outlay and you can always upgrade again in the future.
