Yamaha 30d & 40d whats the difference?

do they work properly even if they are placed on the floor?

Any speaker will 'work' if placed on the floor. They just won't sound anywhere near as good as when positioned properly on a rigid stand positioned at about ear level.

Hi Prof I think the Soundbars are meant to be placed under the tv set really, so you would have to have ears attached to your hips in that case

some can be wall mounted on brackets above/behind the tv also I believe

Good point, was just talking about speakers in general, but you're right of course that with a soundbar it should ideally be placed on a rigid stand under the TV. Much, much better than the floor, that's for sure!

thanks to all your opinions i`ve gone for the ysp 1100 as what hi fi gave it a good review wait till it arrives
