My dad recently upgraded his AV reciver and offered me his old one.
A Philips DVD/VCR Home Theater System MX5100VR
A pretty basic 5.1 set with nothing wrong with it bar in only has two scarts in the back one for input and one for output.
Not being one to say no to free stuff I have a plan to use it but it's a bit long winded.
My idea it to run the TVs optical audio out into an optical to RCA converter which is run to the input slot on the back of the reciver.
In my head this means I can play my xbox which is plugged into the TV via HDMI and have the audio come out of the TVs optical and into converter which turns it into left and right RCA which goes into the 5.1
This probably sounds like madness and a lot of effort when I could just go get an AV reciver with HDMI slots on the back but if this works I can get 5.1 for the price of the converter which I think is worth a shake at least.
