I have just bought a house and stripped it down to floorboards and bare brick.

I am looking to fill the house with HiFi and TV and seeing as I have the house stripped out I would like to hide all cables and speaker wire.

So my question to you guys is what do I need to consider when installing hidden cables and also does anyone know of any tricks or tips, or aware of any pit falls that I should be aware of?

I would also like to future proof the house so is there any thing I need to think about in that respect?

Kind regards,

Eagerly awaiting your responses.

For wiring and hiding speaker cables, you will need to get the electrician to install single back boxes(switch boxes) in the walls at the locations you will be putting speakers.

And then run conduit from box to box and back to the location where the amp and system will go.

This will allow the cables to be removed or replaced as needed. And blank plates can be put over the back boxes to finish the look.

The same can be done for flat screen location. Run empty conduits from back boxes installed in the wall where the tv will be hung.

Another tip - work out what you may want to do in the future, and possible wiring runs. Lift the relevant floorboards (probably nailed) and screw them back into place. Believe me, in years to come you'll be really glad you did this !!

Yeah good point

And dont forget to wire a dedicated circuit for the hifi/av system when the wiring is being done.

And if you have or intend to buy any big high end power amp's like Krell or Bryston for example, wire a dedicated supply for each of them also.
