I am planning on investing in a new system.

My budget is approx £2000.0. The main thing is that it has to be compact and with as few wires as possible or my wife will kill me!!!!

I am not bothered about if its 2.1 or 5.1

Any ideas? Just returned from Singapore and saw the new Dennon Smart system which was 2.1 with wi - fi connection and i-pod connection built in - I have not seen anything of this system over here.

You need to crawl out from under your wifes thumb. In my house i dictate the the size of speakers and telly, how many boxes there will be and what colour the wires will be. You need to rule with an iron fist from the start and never crawl under the thumb otherwise you will end up with a micro system or something.

I sometimes look for a reassuring nod but if i dont get it i proceed anyway.

Hmm, let me attempt a slightly more politically correct and helpful suggestion! KEF do a few wireless home cinema solutions. With your budget, you could afford the KEF KIT 580w package which has wireless rears - the speakers are compact in a traditional sense but might not be entirely what you're looking for?
I have to admit, at the moment, I am against wireless technology in speakers because you tend to end up with a much worse system than you could get for the money because of the amount getting wireless costs (see this thread). I can understand the attraction, but when you look at a decent speaker wire like the QED Micro for the rears, you can normally easily disguise it so it will be hardly noticed.
