Very cool! Same with my dad but the Pioneer 427XD plasma TV in our lounge.

Samsung 32" HD Ready (2009).
Developed a fault where the volume automatically ranged from 0 to 100 and back again, every few seconds. An ever so slightly irritating issue!

A 32” Hitachi from Richers, with huge speaker pods bolted on each ‘wing’. Pretty good sound, but it cost about £1200. It was HD ready, but it was a couple of years before we got a Freesat box that picked up HD.

I remember because I’d just taken ‘early retirement’!

They (probably ) didn't intend to mislead with that description.
But it did mislead, no question.
A large minority thought their set was receiving HD transmission - a case of ignorance is bliss.

I remember Dara O'Briain doing a piece about people who thought their SCART lead was carrying HD. Funnier than it sounds, now I come to type it...

....in my TV install days, one customer called it a SCARP lead.
Another had a 3.5 mm jack plugged into an RCA socket...and wondered why his headphones weren't working 🙂.
(Easy to assume everyone knows about these things - many neither know nor care).

Still, as one not in the first flush of youth, I'd prefer hearing that to straight pronounced as shhtraight, and drama as jrama!

Our first flatscreen is still our first after 12 years!! Splashed out in 2010 on a Loewe 32” Individual, badged as a smart TV, not so smart now, like many of us getting on!😀 Have to wait about 5 minutes for it to load iPlayer, but we’ll keep it till it packs up or grinds to a halt! Really like it’s integrated recorder. We’re stuck with a 32” due to the size of the room, so they’ll be some head scratching if we ever need to replace it.

Bet someone’s got an older flatscreen somewhere that’s still their main tv?😀

I suspect it has a much wider bezel around the screen - newer sets have incredibly thin bezels, so a larger modern screen would occupy the same frontal area, if that makes sense.

You can be sure of that.
Loads of people need to be forced to change.
I've just bought / installed a new TV for an elderly relative - with no broadband.
For her, the useless 'smart' features of the set actually hinder normal TV use.
