Which AV Receiver?

i am just about to upgrade my home cinema system from HD to 4K/UHD, probably buying the Sony KD75X9405C or the LG G6P screen. my current AV receiver is a pioneer VSX-LX60, bought about 8 years ago! will i need to change this to get the best from my new screen and if so what would you recommend?

first of all do you think i need to change my existing av processor? is it daft to spend £7,000 on a new UHD panel and not change my AV amp?

if so then my speakers are all pioneer 2 x S-F80-W (130W) and 2 x S-H810V-W (130W) and S-W90S subwoofer. my budget would be about not more than £2,000. i could spend more if absolutely necessary

now here's the rub; i live in northern cyprus and top end makers like meridian and denon, naim etc arent available so its gotta be something more mainstream like pioneer, yamaha and regular high street makes like that.

It depends on your source. If you're going to buy a 4K blu ray player, it makes sense to upgrade your AV receiver (although there's a workaround to use your existing AV receiver).

Depending on your budget and how many speakers you have / want.
To "future proof" you need HDCP 2.2 (4k source encryption) and the latest colour spec.
4k native BluRay players are just beginning to become mainstream, and therefore I would wait until they're readily available and upgrade to one of those, but a lot of "regular" BluRays upscale from 1080p to 4k. Those receivers might upscale as well.
You can add modest (or expensive) extra speakers as your budget allows, but a receiver is a big chunk of money to spend then have to upgrade a second time later.

If you like the Pioneer sound, go with the latest high end Pioneer, but if you fancy a change, the Yamaha RX-A2050 or 3050 will definitely impress. I doubt you'd notice any difference between the 2050 and 3050, so the 2050 would be the sensible choice IMO.

Both the 2050 and the 3050 have nine internal power amps and can therefore drive nine channels on their own. This can be 7.2.2 (i.e. seven surround sound, two subwoofers and two in-ceilings) or 5.2.4 (five surrounds, two subs, four in-ceilings).

BUT the 3050 has an ELEVEN channel decoder / synthesizer, so you can go to 7.2.4 if / when you want to by adding the speakers and an external 2-channel power amplifier, e.g. Onkyo M-5010 or higher spec. to drive either the front channels or two of the surround sound channels.

No, whichever receiver you get has nothing to do with getting the best from your new screen! I will say though that the Sony KD-75X9405C (a model from last year, 2015) is a tremendous television, and has the big side speakers which give the best audio performance of any domestic television, ever. Which size of new LG Signature G6 were you thinking of getting? That is also supposed to have a very good soundbar built in .... Maybe get the new television first and then see how you feel about whether you even need a receive / surround sound system???

By the way, in Britain we wouldn't regard Denon as being more top-end than Pioneer or Yamaha ..... Meridian is more specialist though, I agree. Enjoy the sunshine in northern Cyprus!

thanks very much Son of SJ. it is now down to the 75" sony or wait for the LG signature G6 which i will only be able to get in the 65" size. i dont think LG have a release date for the larger version and buy the time they get it in cyprus the rest of the world will be watching 8K. i am still struggling with the LG importer who cant give me a price or delivery date for the G6 so i am leaning towards the Sony which i can get within 3 weeks. do you think i would be missing out on anything if i forget about the LG?

I and many would diapsagree with son of sj regarding Denon not being a top end product. For the AV receiver, you would be looking at x4200, x6200 or the x7200 and are all top end receivers. Denon is part of the same group of companies as marantz and most of the internals if not all are the same.

another example is the 3313 bluray player which is also a flagship piece of kit and the build quality is second to none. This is only 1080p so won't be on your shopping list and I'm sure a 4K player will be out next year..

so don't discount Denon because they are recieving fantastic reviewers.

I thought Son_of_SJ meant Denon is no more top end than Pioneer or Yamaha, meaning they're all equal in brand value (in comparison with a specialist brand like Meridian). Son_of_SJ owns a Denon 4520 himself I believe.
