Don Juan's Reckless Daughter - Joni Mitchell

Zazu - Rosie Vela

'Don Juan's Reckless Daughter' is a funny thing, probably because of 'Paprike Plains', but the shorter songs are top-notch Joni. Sublime bass from Jaco. 'Silky Veils Of Ardour' is just wonderful. Along with 'Hejira' one of my faves. Must play them both tomorrow.

David Crosby-If I Could Only Remember My Name.

Stanley Clarke-Journey To Love.

Pink Floyd-Obscured By Clouds..

Thelonius Monk Plays Duke Ellington. A great introduction to the genius of both Monk and Duke. Delightful to listen to.

Yes, I agree with you about Don Juan, Jim. Some wonderful moments and sublime sounds from Jaco P's bass. Playing the vinyl version meant I was less prone to skipping to the more rewarding tracks. That said, Mrs. CJ's raised eyebrows indicated a preference for Joni's Blue, and Don Juan bit the dust after three of its four sides.

My father-in-law has a Monk plays Ellington LP (a yellow banded sleeve, I seem to recall. Although I'm sure there's loads of issues of it) and he often plays it to me when we get into a jazz piano conversation. He abhors smooth jazz stylings and usually follows the Monk with selections from his Earl Hines collection just to further illustrate his love of the more free-spirited players. All good stuff.

Weren't you looking for a new cartridge?

Some cracking prices here for Nagaoka. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Home-Audio-HiFi-Separates-/14969/m.html?item=151219970849&_ssn=tedsrecords

If they're so much cheaper in Japan, I may get my wife's cousin to bring some over when she visits in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the Nagoka link BBB-cheapest prices I've seen.

Yes, Charlie-yellow-band around a Henri Rousseau animal print but as you say there are many reissues. What a cool father-in-law!

Joni Mitchell-Don Juan's Reckless Daughter.

Joni Mitchell-Hejira. Perfect for cold winter days. More beautiful playing from Jaco Pastorius.

Ornette Coleman-Live At The Golden Circle Stockholm.

Jackie McClean-Let Freedom Ring.

Lee Morgan-In Search Of The New Land. Deep, soulful and spiritual. Lee's finest hour.

There's always the chance of customs sticking on some money though. I'm going to get my wife to check the prices in Japan, and see if it's possible for her cousin to smuggle a few in when she comes. Will let you know.

Hi BBB,

Yes, I'm still contemplating a new cart.

Which of those on the link you posted would you or other forum-ites recommend?

Are they good prices, then?

I think the prices are good, especially the MP-300 and 500, but they may be liable for excise duty etc., so I'm not sure how good they'd be after that.

As for recommendations, I'll leave that to the others.

England my country the home of the free, such miserable weather. Time to time travel then:

Terry Reid-River.

Beaver And Krause-All Good Men.

Folksong 65-Elektra Records sampler.

H. P.Lovecraft-H.P. Lovecraft. Not to be confused with the sauce. Great hippy record from a million years ago.

Diesel Park West-Decency. What a great band.

The John Renbourn sampler.

John Surman-Road To Saint Ives. Great record. Lovely place.

Very nice prices indeed.

They're nice prices, but they're still not selling for some reason. Maybe people don't want to risk the long postal journey from Japan?

Can I be a bit forward and ask you what you paid for your MP-200 Jimbo?

I have the MP150 and paid aprox £230 for ir from Analogue Seduction.

I did see it cheaper elsewhere but all the cheaper sites were from Japan so a little concerned about postage, however comes in a sturdy plastic box

I wouldn't worry. Had one cartridge and one stylus from the US. Both arrived in perfect condition.

The only thing is that should you receive a less than perfect sample its far quicker to change in your home land.

You pays your money ...

I think I'll be able to almost match those much cheaper prices, with the added benefit of postage from inside the UK.

Do you think the 150s and 200s are the best place to dip my feet in the water?
