:cheer:

"Concert by the Sea" a live performance by Errol Garner recorded 1965 at Carmel, California accompanied by Eddie Calhoun on bass and Denzil Best on drums. A classic which is a must in every jazz lovers collection. I was fortunate to pick this near-perfect disc in an Oxfam charity shop. A mono recording but what the hell it is a classic.

Met up with a couple of old mates a few nights ago for food and drink, then back to ours for more food, drink, and vinyl.

Not sure which of these albums were played in their entirety, but they're on the floor, ready for filing, so they have been played to some extent.

Kraftwerk-The Man Machine

Kraftwerk-Trans Europe Express

Gang Of Four-Entertainment

Neil Young-Harvest

V/A-100% Dynamite

Ray Charles-Collection

Neu-Neu

Curtis Mayfield-Roots

Marvin Gaye-What's Going On

Hovercraft-Experiment Below

Miles Davis-Sketches Of Spain

Peter Gabriel-Passion

AC/DC-If You Want Blood You've Got It

Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground-Compilation

Pixies-Doolittle

Tappa Zukie-In Dub

A good night was had by all, well possibly not by my neighbour, as we turned the sub right up for Tappa Zukie, and that was the last album played at around 3.30am. >)

It's nice to still be able to do it, even in our mid 40s.

Mind you, I was rough the next day.

And I lost my mobile.

Steve,

How's vinyl of Cellar Door sound?

I opted for the cheaper CD version. I know I'll probably regret it one day.

I own over 40 Neil LPs on vinyl but I've ignored most of the pricey Performance Series discs, and plumped for CD or Blu-ray versions. The completist in me knows I'll wish I hadn't.

Quite frankly it is superb, quiet run in, no surface noise whatsoever they have done a very good job of it, everything about it screams quality - even the sleeve is nice and thick.

Paid £21 at my local independant shop so quite please as its £24 at Amazon

Thanks for that. It's one of my favourites of the four live discs from that period that he's already released. Not too much talking between songs (Massey Hall and Csnterbury House suffer in this regard).

Sonicallty, it's second best to Massey Hall, for me at least.

The vinyl of Massey and now Cellar are very tempting.

I didn't know I'd made a record.

He looks me the morning after the night before.

Presume it's Tony McGhee/Fee(?)?

Tony McPhee - my first guitar hero at school. The big debate at the time was Clapton, Page or Hendrix. It was always McPhee for me, and I still play the 'Hogs LPs on a regular basis.

Spam filter apparently. Oh well.

Wow! I played the Groundhogs' 'Blues Obituary' and 'Thank Christ For The Bomb' this afternoon. Same debate at my school, although like you, I had a soft spot for T S McPhee, Peter Green and all of the old blues guys, especially Lightnin' Hopkins.

Those days are gone forever

Over a long time ago

Oh yeah.

Autoamerican sounds surprisingly fresh even today. Possibly one of Blondie's better albums. I particularly like the opening instrumental track Europa.

Now listening to my CD copy of Script. Nice and quiet where it's supposed to be no rumbling or surface noise.

I want to love vinyl but do have a love hate relationship with its drawbacks!

Stop it Jim, you're making me feel old. Oh hang on, I am!

Of the modern blues players, check out Matt Schofield, he's the real deal. Plays with touch, feel, tone, and a sophistication that I just love. Also, add in Buddy Whittington too. Both beautiful players, with differing styles, both must see live acts.
