A bit of a Bob-fest :

Another Self-Portrait

Good to see it getting a prominent and informed review in the this month's current WHF.

New Morning

Planet Waves

Self-Portrait

Nashville Skyline

John Wesley Harding

I've always liked this late 60s/early 70s period. Less revolutionary than what preceded it but no less full of great moments.

On another note, I've just come back from visiting my brother in The Lakes and I had to resist an original mono copy of Dylan's debut LP in a collector's shop in Keswick. I couldn't justify the £75 price tag, but it's been gnawing away at me since. Plus he had a nice mono copy of Highway 61 too, which I also now regret passing over. Such is my strange addiction.

Kraftwerk - Trans Europa Express (my fave album of theirs).

As for Amazon, I avoid them if at all possible. At least once a month, will be going tomorrow, I go to Brighton and buy my vinyl, some preordered, and CDs from the fantastic Resident Records. Only if can't find something there, very rare, then I order over the net, usually Diverse Vinyl or another independent. It's my fight back against the death of and homogenisation of the High Street. If you don't use the shops you will lose them!

Can't wait for my Kraftwerk LPs to turn up

My two Kraftwerk albums arrived today, but will hold out until tomorrow before giving them a spin, Autobahn first.

Kraftwerk - Autobahn (Remaster)

I think I'll be returning this, nothing majorly wrong, but centre hole is tight, record is slightly warped, and there were 3 pops during playback.

A little disappointing after the flawless sound of "Man Machine", but you can still hear the difference between this and my original copy.

I'm sending Autobahn back for a replacement, but I've just played Trans Europe Express, and it has the same 3 problems, though to a lesser effect.

Will play again, and make a decision, but having paid over £20 for the record, I expect it to be perfect, and it's not.

BBB, I sympathise

got my Kraftwerk lps

Man Machine is severely warped - but sounds superb but like you say for £22 it should be perfect!

Not looked at Autobahn & Trans Europe Express for warp / but you right they sound bloody good!

Man Machine is the best sounding out of the three, and my copy has only the slightest of warps, and sounds amazing. "The Robots" is mind blowing.

The warping on the other two is probably beyond acceptable, but with the centre holes being over tight on the spindle, my mind is made up.

But, **** me, doesn't "The Robots" sound good.

The Robots is great, isn't it. What do you think of the re-working on The Mix LP?

It's another one that makes the hi-fi shine. My two little boys go bonkers when they hear it. And dance accordingly.

Not heard that Charlie, but if the replacement records are not up to scratch, I'll get The Mix and one of the others as replacements instead, as I have original copies of Autobahn and Trans Europe Express already
