Sorry if this has ben discussed before, but I couldn't find a discussion on it.

With freeview HD coming to some regions next month, and glimpses of the first freeview HD receivers appearing, what resolution will the freeview HD channels be broadcast in?

We are due to get HD here in spring next year. My TV is 720 HD ready but not full 1080 HD, so I want to know if I need to think about upgrading. At the moment I don't use any HD input except AppleTV downloads at 720 HD, so I have no current need to upgrade. But if freeview is going to be in 1080 HD then I would consider upgrading the TV to full HD.

Thanks. Which of these formats is likely to be used most often for OTA broadcasts?

I might be wrong but I believe the boxes will be 1080p (full hd). You will still be able to receive 480p, 720p, 1080i etc etc ...

The really question will be what quality transmission will they use?

The box we had as part of the initial trial was mainly 1080i. I doubt any broadcaster is going to soak up the extra bandwidth required for 1080p when they reckon 1080i is good enough - which, to an audience used to current SD TV, of course it is.
