Been a depeche mode fan means that sometimes for the sake of the peace, im better off listening to my music though headphones. now as I have a phone that is rather good with mp3`s im thinking that now`s the time for investing in some decent headphones for it, im looking at the sennhieser HD202 but im trying to work out how my phone can handle 32 or 64ohms. im guessing that 32 ohms will have more power but will drain my battery faster any advice? also what sounds better? in ear or more traditional styles.

Hi. The lower the ohms and the higher the SPL, the easier a headphone is to drive. At 32ohms and SPL of 115db/V the HD202s are very easy to drive. All but the most esoteric headphones can be driven by the low power of an MP3 player. Headphones got more sensitive back in the late 1970s to cope with the arrival of Sony's Walkman. I have a Sony DR4C headphone which just predates the Walkman and it has an ohm rating of 10,000. It is the only pair of headphones that I have that will not work out of my ipod.

I don't have any knowledge about draining the battery, but as above, the HD202s will not be an issue as they are close to IEMs in their overall ratings.

I think over and around ear sound better than IEM as there is a bigger sound to them. But I don't find IEMs comfortable and comfort is important to enjoyment of the sound.

If you want Depeche Mode with an emphasis on the bass, then the HD202s are a great choice. If you want less bass emphasis, then the HD201s are better.

cheers for that
