Hi! I just got a pair of Mission speakers 750 20th anniversary LE and don’t know what amp to get.

Since I’m really new in this topic would appreciate some insights.

I love vinyl and the most important to me is keeping the sound quality. That said, I do have an initial budget of 300€ max (which I know unfortunately it’s not much).

I listen to a lot of blues, jazz and 70’s rock.

Any advice ?

Welcome!

An older Marantz amplifier might suit, as many have decent enough phono inputs (for your turntable) are widely available secondhand, and repairable too. Or you might get a more recent PM600x series model for your budget.

Do you have any dealers nearby, or well-known traders - perhaps on eBay? - where you live?

Lastly, do you know the speakers actually work?

Thank you! Glad to join the community 😊

I checked and saw an old Marantz Pm7000 for 290€. What’s your thoughts?

I live in Spain so currently checking Wallapop and eBay.

About the speakers, they’ll be shipped on Monday and planning on testing them at a friend’s house with a Yamaha R-S202D

People buy secondhand to make the most of their budgets.
I like new myself and if that's the case for you, then maybe hold off until you're able to consider the likes of a Rotel A8 or Marantz PM-6007.

PS: just seen the above reply (which always happens to me as I'm an ultra slow one-finger tyoer 🙄)
Thank u. Don’t mind second hand if the quality is good 🙂

That looks like a pretty high price, based on UK sales, but if it’s in very good cosmetic condition and fully working then it may be a good bet. It may be 25 years old, so it’s hard to say if it might need attention at some point. From a dealer with, say, three months warranty it would be fair enough. Please appreciate I have no understanding of the Spanish market for hifi!

I asked about testing because if the speakers were faulty, you might damage a new amplifier - a double disaster!

How much are used PM6004, 5, 6, 7 models?

Rotel. I know WHF would usually take an alternative view when it came to reviews and awards, but ever since the 80s/90s, very few budget amps could really make demanding budget loudspeakers sound anything like they should sound. Everyone was buying B&W 600 series speakers in the 90s, and only the Rotel amps could make them sound half decent.
