RickyDeg,

How are you getting on ?

After a fair amout of leg work, just want to share with you some of my current thoughts :

- You were very right about the Apex verus the Dome. The first shop I went to did not arrange the speakers very well, so I went to another one and that was astonishing.

- The LX83 was absolutely great in many many ways indeed - except it did not quite match my 'taste' when it comes to music.

- Unable to demo the A100, it being in such limited supply retailers here would not put up a unit for demo and one has to buy it in full faith ! Many have simply run out of them. I am leaning towards it over the 4311, not least after having read, and agreeing with, what you surmised about it last week.

- I might still go for the Dome nevertheless. As I said before, size, style and SQ are just about equally important in my case, and after much thoughts I am inclining towards making sacrifices in the sound deprtment (I prefer Dome's shape too).

- And in the course of the past week or so, I'm beginning to warm towards a stereo system along side AV, explaining why the LX83 is still on my list, (i.e. it or the A100, need some more time for this).

Guess I'll have to be loitering in the HiFi section for a while too.

Wish to thank you one more time for the various pointers you suggested before (but I don't want to thank you for having a hand in my ever-increasing budget

See you around.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with the Dome's - they are beautiful and easy to integrate. More so than the Apex. I had trouble with the Apex design at first since they're a bit awkward in my book, but love em now. Also the round design with those table-top stands that pivot make things alot more easy. A separate stereo-system alongside your homecinema would be good, I reckon. You'd get the best of both worlds, as long as you can integrate it well. I'm not feeling like I'm missing out on the music-quality with my Apex run by the Denon, so that is no option for me personally.

In terms of receiver, I'm looking forward to demoing the Anthem MRX 700 soon. I do fear however that this might cause trouble with MY ever-increasing budget, hahaha).

Continued good luck and keep us updated. Especially when you have your kit installed and running - would love to hear your detailed impressions.

Hi RickyDeg,

Good to hear from you again.

The Anthem MRX 700 I just heard from you, um, I was just thinking to myself not ever go demo it, given recent experience here ( have to stop somewhere, right ? ).

The Apex looks good to me too. I 'prefer' the Dome satellites simply because they are smaller and their spherical shape fit better with my mostly rectangular furnishings and other stuffs.

Will take some time to decide between the LX83 and A100.

See you around.

If its 50/50 the new Onkyo TX-SR609 is even better than its predecessors in sounding as good with music as it does with movie soundtracks. We've tried this with the Focal Dome 5.1 and it sounded impressive both with Blu Ray and CD sources - the Onkyo TX-NR809 promises to be even better.

Am curently using a marantz Sr6003. Very smooth & clear sounding.. & musical as well. Not bad 4 movie as well. Actually i will go as far as saying this av amp sounded better than most 2 channel amps i compaired it with, in terms of smoothness. May not be as open but very little compromise.
