Linton Kwesi Johnson - Dread, Beat an' Blood

Bizarrely, even though I bought it on vinyl on the day of release in Our Price on Princes Street in, like, 1986 or something, I've never owned this on CD before, until today....

Same here. I bought the CD version a couple of months ago. I still have far more music "trapped" on vinyl than on CD. But I'm getting there.

`Don`t Give Up` must be in the top 5 best songs of the 1980`s. Haven`t got the album on cd but still have it on vinyl. I`m saving my money for the Genesis 1970-75 box set of cd`s and dvd`s which of course feature Peter Gabriel. Great singer. By the way, has the cd been remastered?

I can't tell as the box and sleeve are in the loft. The CD has a copyright date of 2002....but provides no further details.

Cheers. As it`s as late as 2002 I expect it has been.

Great taste you have there!!
I love 'All Our Own Work'. Its so fresh sounding for such an old album. Have you heard the latest Strawbs album? It really is excellent.
I also listened to 'Everyone Is Everybody Else' today on the remastered CD. Probably my favourite BJH album in many ways. I love 'Crazy City'.

Other listening today (my day off!):

BJH - Octoberon
Moody Blues - Long Distance Voyager
Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick
Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief
Joni Mitchell - Clouds
Richard Thompson - Front Parlour Ballads
Strawbs - Hero & Heroine

Thanks Matthew!

You`re dead right about the Sandy Denny and The Strawbs album. I got it off ebay for £8.00 and it arrived in the post today. Very impressed with my first listen.

`Everyone..` album by BJH is certainly one of their best. I think if I had to pick just one I would go for `Once Again`. Very fond of `She Said` `Galadriel` and `Mockingbird`. But yeah, `Crazy City` is great. I have all these albums on the remasterd cds. Couldn`t resist all of the bonus tracks. I think `Poor Wages` and `Brother Thrush` are particulary good amongst the bonus tracks on `Their First Album`.

Met a musician today at Rickmansworth Underground Station (Hertforshire) who said he was a friend of Peter Knight from Steeleye Span. Didn`t get his name as the train came and he jumped on it. Just thought I`d tell you that!

You should hear Paula Cole do it on the Secret Worlds Live album. Rar.

And yes, it's a remaster, though I think they were all done sympathetically under Gabriel's supervision back in '02. Not that I can tell on an iMac.....

Brian Eno, David Byrne - My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts

Gets played most months. An amazing pioneering album for 1981. Very few people can use samples this effectively today.

White Noise - An Electric Storm

Recorded in 1968 using labourious tape loops and diy electronic wizardry, this is a weird psychedelic masterpiece. Apart from heavily processed drumming, I don't think there is a conventional instrument on yhis album.
