I havent listened to this album for years. But I downloaded a free (awful) remix of "Welcome to the Jungle" from last.fm and it made me think about GNFRS! Its absolutely fantastic. Just about to put it on my iPod.

Musical modern art. John Cage is historically important as such avant garde compositions meant that in the future anything goes. As the capabilities of portable recording and recording studios developed, then anything that could be made to resonate and sound could be incorporated into music. This primarliy percussive album is a vaguely musical series of instruments and other stuff being hit. Not suitable for dinner parties and best for headphones, so no one else knows waht you are up to. John Cage also completely ignored the past structures of music; verse, chorus, verse etc and went his own way. This is one of the origins of prog rock.

World Painted Blood is an awsome album.

And yes, it reminds me of Reign in Blood, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss.

Give it a few spins. It will grow on you.
