Very basic requirements from novice

Hello,

Complete novice here looking for an all in one cinema system with DVD player.

This is what I have:

widescreen TV - JVC AV-32T5SK
xBOX 360

Not impressive I know but I'd just like to be able to watch movies, virgin digibox and play xbox 360 with some better sound. I have a low budget of about £100-120.

I have looked at several systems including:

LG HT353SD Home Cinema System
PANASONIC SC-PT160EB-K Home Cinema System
SAMSUNG HT-THX22R DVD/DivX 5.1 Home Cinema System
SAMSUNG HT-TZ212R/XEU

I cannot seem to see any mention of optical inputs which I understand is required to use for xbox360.

Would appreciate any assistance.

Not familiar with any of the systems that you've mentioned but a trip to Currys/Comet should let you identify any potentials. Then go home and buy on line and save some money.

I've not checked those but at this price range whatever HDMI inputs they have will most likely not accept audio over HDMI so you are correct you'll need an optical to get 5.1 sound from your 360. Personally I might be looking at this or are there other reasons for the ones you chose?

Optical inputs on the cheaper systems are very hard to come by, you might need to spend a bit more. Also your Virgin box will need to have an optical out if you want to feed surround sound to the system and therefore you might actually need 2 optical inputs, potentially pushing the price up even further.
