Upgrading from CRT

At present I have a 32 inch CRT, the JVC HV-32D25EJW. I now want to upgrade to a 40 or 50 inch set. For standard definition viewing, do the present market leaders, i.e Pioneer, Panasonic & Sony produce a better picture that my JVC?

The Pioneer Kuro plasmas certainly would, and I don't think the Panasonic plasmas would be far off, either. The Sony LCDs - though excellent compared to many flatscreens - may struggle to hold together the combination of fast-motion and upscaling SD content to such a large screen (compared to top-level CRT performance).
