Hi Everyone

I currently have a Yamaha Yas 207 soundbar. It's served me well but I find it lacks when it comes to playing music, which is something i do as well as watching movies. I am by no means a serious audiophile but I enjoy good sound and want to upgrade my system. My room layout is a little awkward and I have attached a few images, its not a dedicated theatre room.

I am looking at getting a Sony DN790 AV Amp as it seems to be reasonably priced for what I need but I am torn on speakers, I have asked for advice in a few places but get told that any of my suggestions are not good enough. I am on a budget and after amp i have around £500 for speakers. I am happy to start with a 3.1 system for now, some have said a 5.1 would be pointless in my room?

I have looked at the following speakers but any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

Whafedale DX2 5.1 Package https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/speaker-packages/wharfedale-dx2-black.html
Q Acoustics 3010 Package (i could maybe stretch the 3010i) https://www.richersounds.com/tv-hom...10-x2-3090c-and-3070s-subwoofer-graphite.html

Or a paid of Diamond 220's with smaller surrounds and not sure on the centre and sub?

Really appreciate any advice

Agree with bigboss, it is not pointless. It will mean some compromise with the position of the rears but not a deal breaker.
Q acoustics would be my choice as well out of your choices.

In my previous house, my rears were placed up near the ceiling pointing towards the listening position. You could even have in-ceiling speakers if you want.

Thanks, I think I will put them high up. Do you think on the wall or better on a stand at end of each side of sofa?
