I've had my stock used RP1 for a few months now, it has the stock Ortofon cartridge, I have no idea how old it is, I'm really enjoying the vinyl experience and have been buying lots of vinyl from the 70/80s and mostly have struck lucky.

im just wondering if it really is worthwhile upgrading the cartridge to an Elys? Bearing in mind it's £120 is it worth considering the RP1 only costs £215.

Shall I save my money for a better TT like the RP3?

There will be some benefit to adding an Elys, but putting that money towards an RP3 will be a better investment. The RP3 really is a cracking deck.

I did a similar thing with my Pro-ject. Very good improvement on the base cart (Ortofon), but agree with David that a better turntable may give better results.
